She's 9 and its been going on for months. We have took her to the doctors 3 times who have put it down to indigestion and prescribed gaviscon which works for about an hour and then its back again. It gets worse after a meal and she is in pain a lot at the end of the school day.

She quite often feels sick with it too. Also has headaches and always has a mouth ulcer. She's white as a sheet and has little energy and has stopped doing dance at school which she loves.

I took her again on tuesday to the docs and he has now given her a blood test, for anaemia and wheat intollerance. Just waiting for the results.

So far her symptoms have been put down to anxiety as we are having behaviour probs with her brother at the moment and things in the house are tense at times but these symptoms have really always been there for the last couple of years but have got worse lately.

She really is so miserable

We are going through same with DD1 (11 in a week) who had ongoing nausea and abdo pain. She was diagnosed with reflux given zantac tablets, and tested for coeliacs. Since then she has developed colic, is constantly tired and teary, headachy, sore legs, low energy, and still has constant nausea and abdo pains. She is on omeprazole and colpermin, but ultrasound on Friday showed no slow down of acid production in tummy. She has been tested for Crohns, all her bloods come normal except for inflammation markers. She has an upper scope on 28th Feb, which we are hoping will reveal some answers.

Once you get the results, I would push for a referral to a consultant.

your poor dd Sad Its so horrible isn't it, watching them go though constant pain and not being to help.

My dd has lost her sparkle, she's afraid to eat sometimes and is so slender, she weighs just over 4 stone and doesnt seem to be putting any on.

She has sore legs sometimes too.

I will push for a referral I think, cant carry on like this.

I hope you get some answers for your dd soon

My first thought when I read your OP was to get her tested for coeliac disease but it sounds as though they might be doing that if they've taken a blood test for wheat intolerance. My DD1 was diagnosed last year aged 9 after similar symptoms. Her blood test result was extremely high so they were pretty sure it was that but she had to have a gastroscopy and biopsy to be 100% certain as it is a lifetime diagnosis. Sounds scary but it really isn't that bad and going gluten free isn't that difficult either once you get your head round it. Obviously your DD might not be coeliac but just wanted to offer some advice in case she is. Just a word of warning, if the blood test does come back positive, you must keep her on gluten until she has the biopsy otherwise the test will not be accurate. That is the really hard bit because you know what's making her ill yet you have to keep giving it to her but it's definitely worth it for the diagnosis.

Whatever the results, don't give up, keep pushing for a referral and good luck.
