Allergy to polyester???

DS (6 months) has awful atopic eczema. It is only ever where his clothes touch him - i.e. it's not where his nappy is. Today, it flared up the worse ever. Very swollen on his stomach and back. All I can think is that he was sick on his cotton t-shirt so I took it off and he was wearing a fleecy tracksuit (65% polyester, 35%cotton) top directly on his skin. Could he be allergic to the polyester? Does anyone know if such an allergy exists?

don't know about alleriges, but polyester isn't as breathable as cotton which may have made it flair up

Polyester would make him very warm - and so that's probably what did it. It also chafes the skin.

Apparently very rare to rash where the nappy is as this is nice and moist, and rash is made worse by dryness.

My 9mnth ds also has eczema. I find he cannot wear anything but 100% cotton and 100% cotton bedlinen. He doesnt have it too bad now but a few months ago it was everywhere. The doctor said it was impossible to find the cause but to keep the areas moist with sorbelene/glycerin and protroleum jelly. Seems to work. Do this at night time. When he wears polyester he does flare up.

usually recommended to stick to cotton if your child has eczema and to be very careful what you wash the clothes in, never go near a biological powder as there are residues on the clothing even after several rinses. Assume you've read the advice about aveeno/ giving them probiotics and flaxseed oil, works very well for some kids with atopic eczema. Also a switch to goats milk (nanny formula if you've using it, in your diet if breastfeeding) helps some people. Problem with eczema is that nothing seems to help everyone. Hope he improves soon.
