We're under care of a dermatologist, paeditrician and allergy specialist. I thought we'd have answers by now but nope.

We're using streroid cream twice a week and Epaderm
Im between. I think the epaderm does jack all though.

We've tried Aveeno, Oilatum, Epaderm, E45 and others.

We use soap nuts, so no nasty powders in the washing in his clothes. I hoover as much as poss to keep down environmental allergens down, no pets, no smoke.

We're also about to try wet wraps at night but before we do Id like to find a cream that helps a bit, I swear Epaderm doesnt do a thing.

Any suggestion, please, pretty desperate here. We're having to use steroid cream every 3 days and all three of the above HCP's dont seem to be making any noises to this changing.

Hi

Our daughter was a month early and one common issue with premature babies is eczema. We saw a dermatologist and she prescribed synular 1 in 10 and cortisol cream, both are very fast acting and really made a difference and with ad hoc use now we can keep the symptoms under control. It's really important to have this treated ASAP as it can prevent this continuing into adulthood, according to the dermatologist.

We also use centraban as a moisturiser which can help in combination with the medicated creams.

Not sure where you are but great Ormond street hospital and the Portland both have very good dermatologists.

Hope this helps!

I have used a good quality chamomile oil mixed in with recommended base cream/oil in correct dilution. This can be a very effective natural oil to try? Late response but just saw this thread.

The possibility of creams not working could be due to the presence of staph bacteria, that promotes skin inflammation.

Below extract from my interview w former president of AADSkin, think would help:
Marcie Mom: Dr. Clay, I understand that Staph is a main factor causing skin inflammation in eczema skin. Can you detail for us where Staph bacteria reside, how it penetrates and attacks the (i) skin and (ii) body of our child with eczema?

Dr. Clay: As noted in the first post of this series, Staph likes warm, moist, dark areas like the nose and groin, which are known as ?reservoir? sites where it resides. In patients with eczema, it can affect any area of the skin that is compromised or affected with the dermatitis. Because the skin is compromised, it does not have a normal barrier, and the immune response is abnormal. The Staph grows in the skin and releases toxins that cause inflammation, which further worsens the eczema. It can begin growing in the skin and establish infection in the form of boils, cellulitis and folliculitis (?pus bumps?) in these individuals, as well. Rarely, it can actually enter the lymph and blood vessels and spread throughout the body, but it tends to remain localized at the site of entry.

My LO started having at eczema at around 10 months. Hers was due to washing detergents. We changed to using liquid soap flakes and have had no recurrences. However, I have to stick with the same liquid for everyone as otherwise the residue from the other soaps would remain in the machine - apparently, it takes 10 washes to clear out such residue!! Before we found this out, we used Allergenics cream from Holland and Barrett. That helped to some extent.
