Just that really! He is still having about 4 BFs in 24 hours but wrt solids I am not sure what I should be giving to compensate for lack of dairy. I remember DS1 having loads of cheese, milky puddings and yogurts. I am giving DS2 the same as I am having, but I am also taking a calcium and vitamin supplement. Is the BM he has enough? Should I give him some sort of supplement or are there specific foods I should be giving him? I am trying to make his diet quite high fat (avocado, olive oil etc). Advice greatly appreciated, thanks.

I use oatly milk for ds breakfast which has calcium and other vitamins added in it but that's about all I can suggest. I am lucky that my ds's intolerance is quite mild though. At 10m he can now eat cheese, soya yogurts/puddings and cows milk cooked in things. Soya/cows milk and cow yogurt/fromage frais are still a no go but I keep trying a bit every month and it does seem to be getting better. I doubt he will ever really have cows milk though as DH and FIL are still intolerant.

Yes, the breastmilk he is getting is still enough - babies get most of their nutrition from breastmilk/formula until they are at least a year old. Before that, they are experimenting with food, experiencing different tastes/textures and getting into good family eating habits.

At only 7 months old, if your DS is still having plenty of breastmilk, you really don't need to worry much about nutrition just yet. Your body will rob itself if necessary to make sure that he gets everything he needs.

Various formulas, oat milks etc. are fortified with vitamins, calcium, iron etc. but none are quite so good as breastmilk (because in breastmilk the nutrients are perfectly balanced for your baby, and very easily absorbed by your baby).

If you do want to use vitamin supplements, it's perhaps best to take the supplements yourself to make sure that you don't become deficient in any nutrients.

Thank you both. green bananas that's great, just what I hoped!

BTW, I should also have said that it sounds like you are doing a great job already, especially with the high fat stuff, and taking a calcium and vitamin supplement for yourself is a very good idea.

If you want to use a subsitute milk for making up custards and puddings etc. (and if you don't fancy expressing) then you can use oatly for that, and you can also buy hypoallergenic formula over the counter if you are not able to get it on prescription.

My own feeling (as if you couldn't tell Smile) is that breastmilk is great for all babies, and especially for CMP allergic babies, as it saves you so much hassle worrying about nutrition when they are small. Keep it up as long as you can!!

If you do eventually decide that you want to cut down on breastfeeding, perhaps when your DS is much older, then hypo-allergenic formulas are perhaps better nutrition-wise than the other milk subsitutes on the market.

My ds has boobies and bottles - he will happily drink a bottle of formula, but doesn't like it mixed in his food so I use oatly instead. I think it makes the food taste bitter.

The breast milk will be enough at the moment.

When we saw the dietician she gave us a list of high calcium foods and by farand away the highest was a bowl of porridge. Broccoli was up there too.

We use fortified Oatly as a milk replacement.

I agree that breastmilk is definitely the best at this stage but you might want to ask your consultant/dietician/GP for a hypoallergenic formula like Nutramigen or Neocate for when you start weaning. My DS is 4 & 1/2 and still on Neocate as it is so high in nutrients and the dietician recommended he stay on it until 5 but I know many are taken off a lot earlier due to the cost of the prescription. Lots of avocado and olive oil is great, we used to do exactly the same when DS was little. Lots of broccoli too as it's a good source of calcium as is instant hot oat cereal (otherwise known as Ready Brek) as it is fortified with calcium and vitamins. We use Morrison's own brand as Ready Brek says 'may contain milk'.
