Symptoms of an allergy?

I was just wondering if anyone could help with this.
DS is 7 months. He's got several persistent and reoccurring health issues which include Eczema, constipation, frequent coughs and colds, frequently throws up (less now he's on solids though), he's never been able to lay on his back without throwing up or being in pain, occasional sudden redness on his face after eating which goes away after a few minutes. What I was wondering was whether these could be symptoms of an allergy an if so what I should do. I've briefly brought it up with my GP but her response was that the only thing he could be allergic to is nuts and I shouldn't give them to him! Craziness!
Any advice would be most appreciated. Please forgive me if I don't reply tonight as I may need to sleep soon!

My DD was the same, she has a half-sib with nut allergy and as it turns out she is allergic to eggs and penicillin, I am lactose intolerant. As a small baby she had reflux, weighing less at 12 months than 8 months. They then took me seriously and she went 'into the system' but I had to prove she was failing to thrive.

I'd keep a 1-2 week food diary and then go back with hard and fast evidence rather than reporting symptoms it I've found GPs very hard work.

Fingers crossed your little one is fine, however, as a rationale adult, you know when something's not right with you own baby, feet stamping maybe required.

Good luck

Sorry, forgot to say DD still has eczema and she had an ear infection practically every other week from 6-12 months. I was told kids with reflux get mucus pooling in their tubes which makes their sickness worse and also raises the issue of ear infects.

I must say reading your post is a lot like what I used to post asking for help here on the allergy board and people were amazing.

Thank you so much BluBumedFly. That's really useful.
DS doesn't have reflux as such, he's always been a very sicky baby, especially before he started solids. But I don't think he ever really got any pain from it, other than when he was put on his back. He's also always put on plenty of weight so there have never been any 'failing to thrive' issues. It sounds like your poor little DD had a much worse time of it than DS.

I have thought about keeping a food diary or eliminating certain foods from his diet, but as I'm still breastfeeding him would I have to do it for me too?

I wouldn't eliminate anything without a baseline view of a few weeks otherwise you'll never know what changes are working. But yes, if you go down the elimination route it's for you too whilst your are BF.

Definitely sounds like something is going on. I would think its more of a intolerance then a true allergy but I would keep a close eye on him after introducing new foods just in case. My son has an intolence to both lactose and soy. He suffered from reflux and pain in the tummy his stools we always soft and a lot more smelly then normal.

i agree, sounds like a typical intolerence allergy. go and see another gp in your practice, and ask for a refferal to a pead.

kids with intolerence find it painful to lay flat on back in cot,as inflamed gut hurts.

common causes of intolerence is milk allergy.

does he have a runny nose, and look very tired?

not a happy looking baby iyswim?
