Hi everyone,

My DD is 21 months and allergic to milk, nuts and eggs. She is breastfed, but I dont totally eliminate the allergens from my diet - only avoid raw products (although I tend to stay away fro nuts TBH).

Anyway...she has had eczema on her chin and a small pacth at the side of her mouth for many months. We have hc cream for it which we use if it is particularly bad. TBH I dont think it helps much during bad phases, but I cant be really sure I suppose.

I always thought that her eczema may be caused by breastfeeding due to me not totally removing the allergens from my diet. However, before christmas my DD had a bad cold and was breastfeeding lots more than usual and we noticed that her eczema was actually better, not worse as I would have expected.

Since then it has got much better and only seems to be itchy if she is eating messy foods that dribble down or salty food that aggrivates it. Once she has been washed the redness seems to go and she no longer scratches. Ive hardly had to put any cream on her face at all, although I still use moisturiser a couple of times a day.

So...the million dollar question...why is it better?

I don't know but my mum alway says my brothers eczema was better when he was fighting a cold. She put it down to the body being busy producing bug fighting goodness and not busy making life hard.

I have always had eczema too but as an adult mine is worse with colds.

Mmmmm thats an interesting point...although I dont think her eczema has been better during other colds and she seems to get so many!
