Passed baked milk challenge!

Just that really, I'm so chuffed I need to tell the world, but most of the world don't understand the ins and outs of this.

Grin Grin

So we're allowed baked milk and baked egg now - which effectively means any bread/cake/biscuits that hasn't had fillings etc added after cooking. I'm still trying to work out what else it means we can have (unsurprisingly absolutely no guidance given from the hospital except 'don't give her a glass of milk or anything' Hmm).

If anyone has any other ideas of what it means we can have, then please share! I went mad in the shops yesterday, throwing in all the 'may contain' crumpets, and cakes, and biscuits we couldn't have before. The dc's had their best tea ever Smile

I know it's rubbish if your dc's haven't got to this stage (yet?), but hopefully this might give you hope. Dd1's reactions were so acute when she was little that we thought there was no chance of her growing out of it really, but 4 years on it looks like we might really be on the (slow) path up.

Fantastic news!

I bet you can't stop smiling. What a relief. Enjoy the new found shopping freedom!

CokeFan · 12/01/2012 13:58

Hooray!!! Congratulations mini lukewarm!

My 3yo DD has CMP allergy (still testing positive to skin prick test but decreasing in size each year) so I'm hoping she'll grow out of it at some point.

She passed an egg challenge (baked and ordinary) in August and I know the great feeling of relief when there's a whole raft of food that suddenly becomes open to you.

What did you have to take/give your DD for the baked milk challenge?

lukewarm · 12/01/2012 14:05

Thank you guys (gals)!

She had to a eat a total of 4 malted milk biscuits. Not a hardship for her! Bless her, she's so excited as well, and will suddenly eat the pre-school snacks, so she must feel like a weight has been lifted too Smile.

Her skin prick test went from 6mm (control 2mm) at 18months, to 3mm (control 3mm) last autumn. So still technically positive, and I know the size doesn't necessarily indicate severity etc, but was worth a challenge to test (she had stopped reacting to contact as well). Fingers crossed your dd will carry on improving cokefan.

lukewarm, that's fantastic news, you must feel so liberated right now!!

My DD (4.9) is allergic to CMP but seems to be getting worse not better - had two anaphylactic reactions this summer - so I don't think we'll be doing any food challenges any time soon :(. But that doesn't stop me rejoicing in someone else's good news., I'm really pleased for you and your DD

londonmum123 · 12/01/2012 14:12

Oh wow that's fab. So lovely that she can eat all the crap normal snacks that her friends will be eating at pre-school.

I'm holding out for a baked milk challenge next year...

Yay for your DD.

lukewarm · 12/01/2012 14:13

Sorry to hear that mintyneb Sad. I did think twice before posting, as I know that hearing about others dc's growing out of the allergies in the past has made me a bit Envy. You are a better person than me!

don't worry about posting good news lukewarm, its so good to hear that there is one less child having to worry about what biscuits are being passed around! I guess it means your DD can eat most breads now? That would open up a whole load of new doors for you too. Have fun!

Whelk · 12/01/2012 15:15

Great news! That's brilliant lukewarm! You must be delighted. And you should be!!
Gives me hope for my own dds. Thanks for posting

Brilliant news Grin lukewarm

mintyneb sorry to hear about your DD. Sad

My DS was allowed to try ketchup after a year of none and all seemed fine until he got hives around his neck 4 hours later. He's another who grew into his allergies!

I love hearing good news though - gives me hope. Grin

freefrommum · 12/01/2012 19:53

Fantastic news lukewarm! So pleased for you and yours. Time to celebrate Wine! Like mintyneb my DS's CMP allergy seems to be getting worse not better but I haven't given up hope yet and your good news keeps that hope alive.

Clara35 · 12/01/2012 20:22

lukewarm that's brilliant news! It's great to hear kids can grow out of their allergies. Hope your dd enjoys all her new food! Smile

lukewarm · 12/01/2012 20:40

Aw shucks, thank you everyone. Mnetters are so nice!

Dd1 did indeed have another tea comprised almost entirely of hydrogenated fat and sugar (aka lemon curd tarts and chic chip cookies). Got to balance out 4 years of stew and fruit and veg!
