I stopped breastfeeding at xmas and my 19 week old dd is happily on formula. She is really thriving and happy (75th centile for weight and 98th for length) On Monday she pooed whilst I was changing her nappy and I noticed the tiniest streak of pinky red blood on her stool. Would never have noticed it if had just seen a dirty nappy. I went to the health visitor on tues and forgot to mention it. Because she has more than doubled her birth weight, is drinking 36+ fl oz of formula a day and started waking early for food after sleeping through - the hv suggested slowly introducing some baby rice which I did. dd loved it.
Yesterday I noticed the blood again and googled it - it seems that this could be due to a fissure OR an allergy to formula. I have got an appointment with the gp for wed.

Should i try get an urgent appointment? I really have to say that dd is the picture of health and one of the happiest babies I know. And should I stop the baby rice?

Am posting this on weaning area too as not sure where to ask the question.

Not really sure on this one. My ds's allergies showed up around 4-5 months through a slight dermatitis rash. He had no blood in his stools. I was bf and eating everything he is allergic to. He had a week of formula and had hives and vomiting but still no blood. Skin tests later revealed wheat, dairy, egg, fish and peanut allergy. I know of a baby who has had blood in his stools many times and was thought to be allergy related but skin tests came up negative. He is bf and every time mum ate gluten or dairy he would have the blood in his stools. He also had eczema and tummy upset as well. Through my own experience I would have thought your dd would have some other symptoms such as tummy upset or eczema/skin rash. Perhaps because she is still quite young in terms of solids you could stop and try again at 6 months.
