Advice pls - 9m old baby with rash after eating wheat

Started weaning my son at 6m, EBF until then. Noticed sometimes his face was spotty after foods so have been giving him single foods to work out what was causing a reaction.

Have narrowed it down to bread / weetabix etc so seems that wheat is the issue. The reaction isn't too bad - soon after eating he gets a red rash around his jaw line and on his cheeks which fades after a few hours although the skin on his cheeks has become a little dry looking.

I have an appt for his 8m check with the HV tomorrow so can raise it then, but wondered what I should be doing. Have also stopped giving him bread etc for now, but any advice as to what I should do would be appreciated.

Does his face go pink and blotchy (white looking lumps) - if so, they are hives and are part of an allergic reaction. An allergic reaction would usually also involve a bad stomach - d&v and a sore mouth and distress.
Your hv will be able to advise you better than me. You're doing the right thing already btw - avoiding the problem food and seeing a professional. If the hv isn't much help, see the GP and ask about allergy testing. If you're really concerned, going private is much quicker (but see a properly qualified paediatrician/allergy specialist. It can take weeks to get an NHS hospital referral for allergy testing, but going private (usually at the same hopsital) takes about a week, sometimes more - you still need a referral from your GP though.

Credit to you goldi for being so observant and switched on, it took me a decade to work out my ds problems were caused by wheat (with help from internet).
Looking back I should have trusted my gut and done what my mother brought me up on, which were soups and liquidised foods, eggs etc with no wheat in sight. My ds was older, but we binned breakfast cereals and don't miss them anymore.
WHatever happened to wheat in recent years makes it indgestible to so many that it's shocking.
