Do I need to give piriton?

In the last year my dd (2yo) has had reactions to raw tomatoes, cashews and peanuts. We are seeing the specialist next week for skin prick testing. This morning after breakfast I noticed my dd had a small red rash around her mouth. (Her dad gave her breakfast so I'm not exactly sure what may have caused it but she is unlikely to have had anything new.) It's now after lunch and the rash has spread a little and is more definted. It's still restricted to her mouth, chin and under her nose though.

Should I give her a dose of piriton or just wait for it to disappear? Skin prick testing is in a weeks time.

From the literature we received with DS's most recent appointment details:

If you (or your child) are taking antihistamine medicine (such as Piriton, Clarityn or Zirtek) you need to stop taking them before the appointment as they may interfere with the test. Please stop taking:

  • short acting antihistamines - such as Chlorphenamine (also known as Piriton) two days before the appointment
  • long acting antihistamines - such as Cetirizine nad Loratidine (also known as Zirtek and Claritiyn) five days before the appointment.

So you should be okay to give Piriton. HTH Smile
