hi

i was wondering if anyone had been able to have a test to say whether their baby was intolerant to cmpa? Dr thinks my baby may have this but I am not convinced. Have been prescribed Nutrigemen (sp?) but he is refusing to drink this. I don't really want to make feeding times a battle ground if cmpa is not even an issue.

thanks!

The only way to diagnose an allergy is with a blood test (it cost about £1000!) so few HCP are willing to do it on the NHS.
The best way to rule out a CMP intolerance is to remove the diary and see if the 'symptoms' improve. What symptoms does he have?

Why did your dr prescribe a dairy free milk? if the dr suspects cmpa then they should test for it surely?

My DD had a blood test in hospital as her symptoms were pretty severe - however I decided to go on a dairy free diet and feed her until she was 1. Getting them to swap onto dairy free formula (Neocate in my case) was a nightmare though.
What are your baby's symptoms?

Allergy tests (blood and skin prick) are notoriously unreliable and most initial diagnoses (sp?) are based on symptoms and whether or not they improve when the allergen is removed. I think you are very lucky to have a GP who is allergy-aware and willing to prescribe Nutramigen without a referral. Best way to get them to drink it is to do it gradually by mixing small amounts with their usual milk and building up the quantity until they're eventually just drinking the Nutramigen. It may take a little while as it is truly disgusting!
