Which soya formula? Or something else?

My Ds has just been diagnosed with a cows milk protein and egg allergy. The test for soya was clear. Which soya formula should i use? I'm still bf but useless at expressing so it would just be for on cereal mainly. I know there's a problem with oestrogen (sp) but this should be ok for just cereal won't it? Or should I use something else? We're currently on neocate but it's disgusting and he'll only drink it if I sweeten it with apple puree. We've used cow and gate soya formula when I took my dad to hospital, DH bought it, but I dont like C&G. Any thoughts?

How old is your DS?
SMA do a soya formula called Wysoy.
My DS is also allergic to CMP and we have been giving him Aptamil Pepti, which is still whey-based, but the protein has been extensively hydrolyzed. We chose Pepti mainly because it tasted so much better than Neocate or Nutramigen and because we weren't sure about soya, despite the skin prick test being negative for it. Some babies with very severe allergies to milk, however, can't tolerate even Pepti.
DS is now 17 months and we still use a bit of Pepti, but he also has soya yoghurts and soya cream as well as alternative oat and coconut milks.

How old? I'm guessing 6 months plus. If this is only for cereal then there is no reason to use formula on that -- you could try oat or coconut milks as garlic says (which is what I give DS).

Dd3 has the SMA Wysoy but Cow&Gate also make a soya formula. We had to use Soya as dd was reacting to the milk proteins which were getting through into my breastmilk so couldn't chance her on the hydrolysed formulas. You could use rice/oat etc milk instead which you can buy in the 'free from' section in the supermarkets.

Dd3 is 18 months now and seems to be growing out of her intollerance, we've been introducing things slowly and she's handling cooked milk products ok, haven't tried her with normal milk/yogurts etc yet, will be waiting until she's 2 for that :)

Ds has Neocate formula. Am bfing so we only use it in place of cow's milk on cereal and in cooking. We also use soya milk but the formula is packed full of nutrition so we treat it like a supplement.

The Neocate is prescription only but if you have the diagnosis, there's no reason why the GP wouldn't precscribe.

I've found ewe's milk cheese is safe for ds to eat. He has dairy and egg allergies.

101North, one of the GPs in our surgery wouldn't prescribe Pepti for DS because we had gone to a private paediatrician for skin prick tests. She said these tests were unreliable, especially because they had been done privately! Can you believe it. So a diagnosis isn't necessarily a ticket to a prescription, sadly.
It was only when our amazing HV intervened that we got the prescription (and have been getting it for 11 months now).

He is 7.5 months. I'm using oat milk for myself but I think it's too sweet for a baby. He has reacted to coconut milk so we're still off that for now. He doesn't like neocate.

If its just for cereal, then use soya milk - doesn't need to be formula at all. Alpro do a 1 yr plus one with more fat in it. Or just a regular unsweetened soya milk with added calcium (alpro or supermarket brand)

If its for more than that, then under 1 yr old, you need Nutramigen (or Nutramigen 2) or Neocate. If you introduce it mixed with EBM, and gradually increase the proportions, it should be accepted OK. Well, at least my two DDs ended up loving Nutramigen anyway Hmm. Don't think that soya formula is recommended as a main milk for under 1 year olds (plus a higher chance of them becoming allergic to soya as well if they have a lot of it).

I agree with lukewarmmama, try to persevere with the Neocate if at all possible as it is definitely the best for your little one. My DS is still on it now and he's 4 because the dietician says it's the best way to get the calcium etc he needs. I also agree with the suggestion of mixing it with EBM as this is often the best way to get them to accept it. Might take a while but hopefully you'll get there in the end!
