Wet wrapping help

DS (21wks) eczema has got worse but it's more rashy than inflamed. So my HV suggested wet wrapping. We got the little vest & tights (things have moved on since my day!) and have tried it for the first time tonight.

The problem is that I'm worried that DS will get cold. I soaked it all in very very hot water but by the time we wrung it out, got it on him and got him dressed they seemed quite cool. He's in bed at the moment and is unsettled - though we're not sure if its the eczema, wet wrapping, cold, blocked nose or teething

Basically, can anyone reassure me that it won't be really cold and uncomfy for him? I was wet wrapped as a child (with bandages) and remember feeling uncomfy.

the bandages are so thin and aerated that they dry very quickly - don't worry about that. They are also so stretchy that they should be comfortable. We have wet wrapped both our dds and it's worked - plus the vests and tights are loads better than the way you used to have to cut strips off the roll.Eczema makes the skin feel hot and dry so the moisture from the bandages is comforting and soothing ( at least that is the theory)!

I agree with Donnie, it is unlikely to be the wet wrapping that made your ds unsettled. My ds has been wet wrapped (and we are likely to have to go back to that this week).

I used to worry about putting the vests/tights on as they got cool, so I used to keep a washing up bowl of hot water in the room where I was dressing ds. Then once I had wrung out the garments, I kept the scrunched up until I was about to put them on. This helped them to retain some of thier heat.

How is your ds this morning?

my son has been wet wrapped since he was4 months old with no problems. Make sure that you are putting a dry layer of bandages over the top which stops the evaporation happening so quickly and keeps them warm. My son is becoming less tolerant of them but we are having to use them less and less which is the plus side. You must stick with it for it to work. My son was diagnosed at Great Ormond Street as being in the worst 5% and now you would hardly know thanks to wet wraps.

Thanks everyone. We think the unsettled thing is teething. The wraps don't seem to have improved the really angry bits but they have made the rest of his skin lovely and soft. We'll stick with it for a bit and see how it goes.
