My son is allergic to eggs (and dairy and nuts)..
and has an epi pens...

When he was about a yearish I gave him some eggy bread.. well before long he started sneezing.. (I counted 12 on the trot with no break) and sneezing, his eyes went bloodshot and swollen and he started to wheeze.. he was rubbing his eyes and his nose was running... and I didn't realise this was a allergic reaction (durrr)

he was allergy tested at Basingstoke general hospital when he was about 2 and 4 months, (skin prick) and now goes every year to be tested again.

No it hasn't got any better and (according to the skin prick tests)
No we don't give him anything with egg in..

The doctor did say we could try him on cooked egg, like in a cake, but to be honest we haven't bothered... He is now 7 and trusts us to feed him and keep him safe... if I said try this it may make you ill he wouldn't try it and probably wouldn't trust me again... and I don't feel I could just give it to him and see what happens...

what symptoms did your daughter have?

My dd was allergic to egg big time ( one day we were making fairy cakes and a tiny bit of raw egg splashed on her face-then in a moment her face was all swollen and horrible)

She grew out of it by the time she was 3.5

Good luck.I think its quite a common thing that children DO grow out of

My ds is allergic to egg. He was skin tested at 7 months before he had tried it. Result was quite strong. He also gets tested each year. He is now 2 and 2 months and was tested about a month ago and result was better but stills strong. I won't give him any until negative result. My research has shown the approx age is 5 or 6 to grow out of egg allergy if they are going to.

rummum I once worked with a fellow who still had egg allergy. He could not eat "normal" cake but could have a cake that had been cooked for over an hour such as fruit cake. Perhaps if you were going to tempt it you could try that first.

i phoned the hospital to see if they would retest her early, but they said no, she starts full time nursery fter xmas and i would like her to do 2 full days but instead will have to do mornings. partly my fault as i wrote quite a scary letter when she started about her egg allergy and the different stages ofr eaction, so they are quite reluctant to let her stay for lunch time, dont want to be responsible if another kid gives her anything...

Nursery sounds a bit restrictive. Does she have an epipen?? Would they be willing to take her all day if she has one?? I can't advise much on nursery as I still haven't got the courage to send my ds. Lovely place available to us that are more trained in epipens than I am but I can't bring myself to do it yet.

Our first appointment was a 10 month wait. DS was 6 months and he would have been 16 months by time of appointment (long time to eat only rice cereal!!). I am in queensland, oz and we have two allergists serving a population of 4 million. I saw a paed who sent a letter to allergist asking for interim advice. I rang both of her clinics and asked to be put on cancellation list. We ended up getting an appt about 6 weeks later when someone cancelled. Perhaps you might be able to ask specifically to be put on cancellation list.

is she allergic to things with egg cooked in them? does she get a severe reaction?

dd is now 5 and can handle things with egg cooked in them (like cakes) but I have yet to try her with egg on its own. She's been fine with things with egg cooked in them since she was around 3 or 4.
