Good news for our dairy desensitisation protocol

DS1 has been on this protocol for nearly 18 months and has gone from one drop of boiled milk diluted 10 times to 90 ml a day.

Good news is that his IgE results, which started at 43 and then went up to 53 in the first few months (normal for this kind of protocol) have been steadily dropping and are now down to 12!

We are crossing our fingers for continued progress, but it does feel like it's worth all the hassle :)

Thanks BB. Actually we're in Luxembourg though our specialist has close links to a very cutting-edge allergy centre over the border in France...

weta thats fantastic news and well done you (I presume its you) for putting in all the hard work and effort in persevering and preparing the milk every day, it must take some time.

90ml is a huge amount to tolerate, you must be so pleased :)

This news really gives me hope that even if DD can't switch to a full dairy diet one day my heart doesn't need to be in my mouth every time we venture out of the safety of our home

Thanks for your replies...

Fortunately the boiled milk can be kept for a couple of days (which I do stretch out to 3 usually!) although it is a bit of a hassle sometimes - at the moment I am trying not to think about how I will manage it when we fly home to NZ at Christmas. The hardest part is preventing him from exercising for two hours after each dose (the 90ml is split into two doses a day). But the results are so encouraging :)

Great news - patience pays! your DS must feel happy too.
Why can't he exercise after each dose? Good to hear you're in good hands with this protocol.

Well DS is kind of pleased but at the moment it is probably more of a hassle for him than anything else - he doesn't like drinking the milk, the exercise thing is a pain and we can't really allow him much extra latitude with food as the doses have to be carefully controlled.

The exercise thing is because it makes the gut more permeable and so more likely to have a reaction. It took us a while to work this out (with the specialist - apparently this isn't a problem for all children) and he has had two hospital admissions in the last few months for this reason (first time we didn't know and the second time we were on holiday and forgot to be vigilant about it the first evening).
