A weaning question really - when to introduce gluten/dairy/egg?

Hello all
This is a weaning question really but wanted the allergy viewpoint
DS is 9 mths and has ezcema. I have mixed fed him formula/breastmilk from 8 mths.
He is currently gluten/dairy (apart from the formula) / egg free.
I was wondering how long to hold off on introducing the gluten and dairy
I'm happy to leave the egg for some time

If he is okay on the formula why is he dairy free?? Have you tried him on different formula to see if the eczema goes?? If he is okay with the formula you could probably try processed dairy such as mild cheese or baby yoghurt. I would leave full milk drinks until after 12 months. You could probably try a little gluten around this age. Try with something like one toast finger and watch for any signs over next 24 hours. I would give it in the morning so that you have the day to watch and is not unsettled at night. I would introduce dairy or gluten one at a time and leave at least one week in between the two. I would definitely leave the egg until well after 12 months and start with really well cooked yolk first. This is just a guide to what I would try. My first two children have no allergy/eczema/asthma and my third child had severe full blown allergy through my breast milk. He had wheat, dairy, egg, fish and peanut but has grown out of wheat, dairy and fish. Hope that helps.

WE introduced glutten around 7-8 months, milk around 14m (but his eczema went wild so we went back to formula until he was almost 2 yrs old). I introduced egg when he was about 18m, although, considering the amount of products that have egg (like bread) he must have had tiny amounts before then.

He is allergic to egg and dairy, but considering how late they were introduced I don't think that introducing them much later than this would have made a lot of difference.

The cow's milk protein in formula has been changed to be less allergenic. So formula is safer than other dairy products.

Mymama - he is dairy free cos I couldn't be bothered to deal with any possible reactions etc yet. The ezcema appeared prior to weaning or formula.

DH has ezcema, asthma & nut allergy so I am a bit cautious

There's no real harm in holding off on gluten/dairy/egg until a year, or even past then, if you can cope.

Thanks NQC. My ds also reacted to formula so It thought it might all be same.

I left gluten until a week before his 1st birthday (so he could have cake if okay)

He's still had no eggs, but I would have left until 2 even if the tests were neg.

I left dairy until 14 months when we had the all clear in allergy tests. He was 18 months before he got into it though.

do you have him on probiotics? They will help his gut handle whatever you give him and have been shown to help a lot of kids with eczema. They may help with food allergy but doesn't look like the work has been done to properly test that.

I;d still wait gluten and egg until one, or even longer if you are managing OK without it. When you introduce dairy cheese and live yoghurt should be tried before whole milk as they are less allergenic. When you introduce gluten oats are least allergenic so if they can't manage those forget anything else for a while. Egg yolk is less allergenic than egg white.

What probiotics can I give him? Sorry don't know anything about them
