This afternoon I sent my three children into the back yard to play (inlcuding ds2 who is allergic to peanuts) while dh and I chatted inside. Five minutes later my beatiful, responsible dd (7) came running in holding a peanut butter sandwich that she had found in our back yard. Turns out the next door neighbour's 3 year old ds had thrown it over the fence. OUr back yard is very private so I was amazed it was there. My heart is still racing thinking of the outcome if ds2 had got to it first. I did go see the neighbour (who I don't really know) and explained the allergy and my concern and she was lovely. Kids will be kids and if it was any other sandwich I would not have cared. I feel sad and frustrated that I now have to check my own back yard for stray peanut butter sandwiches. Just wanted to vent really to others who understand.

Mymama you poor thing. I think it's horrible that you have been made to feel like that in your own home. It was an accident and as you say kids can be kids, it's just really unfortunate that it was peanut butter. I hope that youll see it as an isolated incident and won't let it effect you too much. It's horrible when we have to tread on eggshells, the important thing is to not let it take over you're life. I'm sure you already know all that though! Just keep smiling!

PT I do realise it was an isolated event and will most likely not happen again. I was shocked at the time as home is where we can really relax as we know there is nothing here and we can let our guard down. Out of all of the sandwich spreads available it was unlucky to be peanut butter (was the really chunky kind too). Must admit, as a previous peanut butter lover who hasn't seen it for two years, I kind of looked at it a bit longingly before senseless dh through it in our kitchen bin without wrapping it . Very soon disposed of correctly by me though.
