Milk protein in milk cotton yarn

This is going to sound like such a stupid question, so apologies in advance.

I go to a weekly knitting group, and a member was talking about choosing yarn for a baby blanket, and mentioned a yarn that has milk protein in it. She said she had decided not to use this yarn, because some people are allergic to milk, and she doesn't want to take any risks with the baby's health.

So, would the milk protein in a yarn like milk cotton be in a form that would cause problems for someone with an allergy (presumeably when it touched them), or not?

Thanks in advance - and thanks for muffling any snorts of laughter at such a dim question, too!

Not a dim question - I remember reading about this a while ago in the anaphylaxis campaign magazine. I think it was a new fibre being used by Uniglo, but not sure who else might use it. Could definitely be a problem for anyone with a severe milk allergy. Worth giving the anaphylaxis campaign a call if you need more info.

Thankyou, lukewarm. Smile
