Dd3 6 months seems to have had allergic reaction- no idea what but what can I do to help it?

she has had occasional bouts of eczema & has similar reaction but it's in her face around her mouth, her forearms & torso up to her nappy.

Worst place is around her mouth which has been there a few days but the forearms just started this evening.I've used the creams but I can't guess what's caused it. Left arm is slightly swollen too. ( this is the main one she eats with)

Any suggestions ? Tips?

is she old enough for anti-histamine?
sometimes foods like tomatoes cause skin reaction
also eggs can cause this

heliumballoons · 30/04/2011 21:30

AH I have say 1 year (chlorphenamine) and other says 6 yrs (cetirizine).

OP, could you ring OOH for advice?

Or try aquaious calamine its very cooling? Or maybe antihistamine cream? (Idont know if theres an age on this I'm afraid)

ggirl · 30/04/2011 21:34

I reckon you could get anti-histamine form ooh doc for her age. Worth a call tomorrow tog et appt at ooh.

HarrietJones · 30/04/2011 21:38

Not old enough without dr. Rash has gone down but comes back whenshe gets warm. Her cream helps.

Not had eggs yet (except for in things) , eats tomatoes a lot so not sure of that either.

Today was banana & yoghurt, Cheese sandwich & pear, half a tomato & half a new potato (both got thrown & she cried through tea).

Yesterday was toast, cucumber& carrot, pizza.

She tends to suck food & most falls out. We have been using baby wipes after meals (lazyBlush)so cut them back again today.

DS was prescribed Piriton (chlorophenamine) at 6 months old after an allergic reaction.

I would take her to ooh gp.

heliumballoons · 30/04/2011 21:41

I would have thought for allergy they would as trixy said.

Those of us with older allergic dc's are told to double dose for reactions if needed (and that is sometimes on top of a daily preventitive AH).

HarrietJones · 30/04/2011 22:33

Thanks.

Will try OOH tomorrow. We've all got mild stuff(eczema/asthma/hayfever)

have you changed your washing powder fabic conditioner, even your dishwasher tablets? It took me weeks to work out my ds3 was allergic to fairy!! Blush

Change baby wipes to simple ones or plain old water, but if there was an allergy it wouod have shown up before now, nappy changing etc?

givge ibuprofen as well as calpol, inbetween doses, it will keep temp right down,

good luck

HarrietJones · 01/05/2011 12:43

No to dishwasher/washing tablets BUT we have a new highchair spray!

Don't use wipes for changing but have been for hands & face So keeping some flannels handy for after meals.

Lit better today but very chompy & still clingy.

Heat doesn't help the rash as she comes up after feeding when she's been cuddled up to me

I would look at washing powder, soap, shampoo and cats - any new things being used here or contact with a cat? Or could be pollen or dust mites. Try piriton - if that clears it up quickly its deffo an allergy.
DD2 has allergies to nuts, cats, dust-mites - has epipen for nut allergy.

HarrietJones · 01/05/2011 14:45

No cats.

Try cutting out the wheat and dairy for a bit and see if that helps. The change of wipe and high chair spray will probably help.

HarrietJones · 01/05/2011 20:39

I've got a patch on my arm now Hmm

Her arms are dry but ok now. Face gets worse when she's fed(heat?)
It's warm here so forcing dh to pit jumper oninstead of fire cos I don't think it help

Have you taken DD to a pharmacist to have a gander? They can't diagnose but may be able to recommend something to try.

I took DS yesterday to get saline nasal spray (I had decided to try it) and pharmacist recommended antihistamines - as 'definatly looks like an allergy - his face and especially eyes are very puffy' BTW he's already on max dose AH but the pharmacist recommended allergy eye drops as well as saline spray.

My point above is the pharmacist recognised its allergy by looking at DS. (my fault for not telling him it was firstly).
