Poo query

Sheilsie · 26/04/2011 20:46

My 2.5 year old DD is allergic to dairy and has tested allergic to eggs, sesame and various nuts. She has an amazing appetite though and does 1-2 massive dirty nappies a day. My query relates to the fact that her poos are very rarely formed (perhaps one a month). My new childminder has questioned why they are always loose and whether this is a problem. I'd always assumed that it was due to lack of dairy but now I'm beginning to wonder whether she is reacting to something she is eating (eg. soya or wheat) which is having an adverse affect on her bowels.

Any comments or advice you have much appreciated. Thanks

ds2 is like this, he is intolerant to dairy and egg
i sometimes wondered about it, but never really got to the bottom of it (no pun intended!) and tbh now he uses the toilet I don't really notice Grin
it does not appear to bother him, and he isn't ill in any other noticeable way

Thanks thisisyesterday. Like your ds2, I don't think DD is bothered by it at all. I'm not looking forward to toilet training her though!

Not an allergy related answer: How much fruit does she eat?

My DD (2) also always did loose poo, turned out she was eating twice as much fruit as recommended! Cutting down on fruit solved the problem. (think half as much as an adult portion per toddler portion.

Absolutely loads of fresh fruit (but no bananas as they make her skin go a bit funny)! I think I'll try cutting back as experiment to see if it makes a difference.

What colour are the poos? And what sort of texture? (just 'loose' or a bit mucousy as well?)

Sheilsie · 26/04/2011 21:23

Usually dark brown and very thick and mushy looking. I wouldn't say mucousy though.

Shielsie - thanks for answering so quickly. I was only asking because I have learned recently that green and/or mucousy poos can be symptoms of allergy... so it's really good to hear that your DD's poos are not green or mucousy!

Frequent loose poos are outside my (very limited!) area of expertise. I don't know much about intolerances... maybe it is just too much fruit Smile
