One-off allergic reaction - allergic shiners?

OK, rather than hijack another thread - this was triggered by something someone said on another allergy thread.

DD is 4.5, with no history of allergies (I have lots, but not very serious - hayfever, asthma, excema, and DS has exercise-induced asthma (again mild))

She woke up on Monday morning with, literally, 2 black eyes - dark bruising around the eye and a black stripe under the eye.

The only likely allergen I can think of is that DH had sprayed the gravel with weedkiller on Sunday and DD had not, inspite of being told, stayed away from the area.

I seem to recall a similar reaction to chemical (unknown) that had been sprayed on a school playing field when I was about 7 or 8, but at the time it was just written off as hayfever (for which my DM refused to contemplate drugs Hmm)

So I guess my questions are - is this likely, and is it worth going to the GP? My concern is that if it were to happen again it might be much worse...? No noticeable symptoms other than the shiners, BTW.

Sorry for garbled post, but any advice welcome. This is a new one on me!

This is way more than "just a bad night" - she does that too and will look panda-ish when tired or poorly. This seriously looks as though someone has drawn stripes under her eyes with permanent black marker.

I wasn't here and allergic reaction didn't enter DH's mind, so he didn't give her anti-H's - no other symptoms.

will watch and wait and lock her in the house next time we attempt chemical warfare on weeds....

Personally i would just put up with the weeds

stealthsquirrelsawaytheeggs · 15/04/2011 09:24

that would be my vote too MrsPC - DH is slightly obsessed, though!

Or a hoe and tell DH to apply elbow grease Grin. TBH, the weedkiller hasn't worked anyway so we need some other solution to vast areas of weedy gravel.

What I would really like to know is how likely is it that my guess (and it is only a guess) at the cause is right - has anyone else come across such a reaction, with no other symptoms?

Thanks - some research clearly needed as all this is new to me (my own mother did her very best to ignore all signs of allergies, although in her defence medication was not as good and testing practically unheard of at the time)
