my ds, age 4 has always had sensitive skin with regards to the sun (he's very fair skinned with ginger hair) and has had allergic reactions to numerous sun creams. he was fine last year with everything i used on him, but yesterday i used an old (opened last year) avon factor 30 on his face and arms and he's itching, his eyes have swollen, he's rashy etc..

have given piriton which seems to be working, but what am i going to put on him today? should i try a different cream or leave it until he is not rashy anymore?

will obviously cover him up with hat and clothes, but what do i do next?

ta.

I wonder if it's one of the chemicals in suncreams he is reacting to. Have you tried one of the natural suncreams?

For today I would leave it and cover him. Make him keep his hat on all of the time when he is outside so he gets used to it in case you don't find an alternative. I live in Australia and here the children at schools and nurseries have to wear a hat whatever the weather. They soon get used to it.

yeah, i think it might be a chemical thing because i have used used lots of suncreams on him over the last few years obviously, but this reaction was quite severe yesterday, bless him.

he's really good with his hat...likes to wear it in fact!

will maybe try a baby cream...its so expensive to buy on a trail and error basis!

We had this every year until last year when we used a tesco one. This year we have bought tesco soleil suncare kids green spray factor 30.used twice and it seems ok.The natural ones were no good for us.I think that was beacuse of allergies to the ingredients though she is allergic to eggs, peanuts ,nuts and sesame.

Sorry to jump on to this thread but I am in teh same boat regarding suncream. I am allergic to coconut and am having real problems finding suncream without coconut in it in some way shape or form. does anyone have any ideas at all tys.

Chimchar have you tried your gp for suncream my gp used to prescribe some for me but know as i have to pay for prescriptions its expensive. Might be worth a try for you as obviously childrens prescriptions are free Smile

You should throw out any suncreams from last year, they go out of date. Not that I ever do but thats what you're suppossed to do.

beachesforme · 12/04/2011 13:29
