Eczema and swimming

DD 3yr old has bad eczema. I'm concerned about chlorine in the swimming pool aggravating it so not sure whether it's a good idea to go.
Anyone got any thoughts about this please?

If you go, I'd smooth on a layer of vaseline just before you go in and don't spend ages in there. When coming out, make sure you shower her asap with a gentle body wash and use your normal cream etc as you would after a bath. If it's weepy eczema, then no, I would leave it as she is then prone to infection and it isn't hygenic for others.

If it's already bad eczema, I'd perhaps wait until she's a bit older.

They normally pick up the ability to swim so quickly, that leaving it a couple of years to see if her skin improves, won't really be that detrimental.

We had concerns with our dd likingthespring. We held off for a few years like vintageteacups has mentioned. Then at aprox 6yrs she started lessons on a weekend like her brother. Just for 30 mins in the pool each session. I would cover her in epaderm prior to entering the pool and she would also wear a surf suit type costume to hold the cream on her skin. We still do the same now she is a junior. Then a thorough bath with her usual creams and emollients after. It was a worry holding off so long but I second vintageteacups as now she is in one of the higher groups at school for swimming, so it has not held her back at all. She will also go with the school when they do their short spell of swimming but they cream her for me and I will collect her after for a soak in the bath at home. It works and is a big relief after all the worrying.

DD couldn't swim at 7yrs but now, aged just 9 yrs, she has just collected her national level 5 award. A few years really won't hold her back.

I haven't been three years old for a long time but have eczema, which doesn't react well to chlorine in swimming pools when it's active (Spring to Autumn), even with pre and post applications of moisturisers. Which is pants as I love swimming but it's not worth the itch.

Thanks for your advice. The pool apparently is especially for children and has a low chlorine concentration of 1ppm. It's the nursery that would be taking her and she really wants to go. I don't want her to lose out but it still concerns me as she's been so itchy this past couple of weeks.

I always used to cover my 2 in Hydromol before they got in the pool and it used to work well if they were in for about half an hour or so. After that it would have to be reapplied or they would have to get out.

Get one of those sunsuits, cheap ones in primark and supermarkets, slather in something thick like epaderm and she'll be fine.
