Eczema - gloves for the bath ????

Probably a stupid question but 8 month old dd really goes for her eczema in the bath and it's really hard to stop her - she's like an octopus remove one hand and the other is straight in ?
Has anyone heard of anything or has any one any suggestions for a suitable covering ? I do tend to give her a toy to chew and that will entertain her for a while but then she's back to scratching the top of her thighs again and making a right mess.

Thanks

Jules

How about shorter baths? depending in the product you are using in the bath, you can leave them in as little as 7 minutes and they still get the benefits of the eczema's bath oil.

Or, keep her fingernails really short, definitively reduces the amount of damage.

Hi Chandra

Thanks for that. I use either Aveeno bath or oatmeal in the bath and then Elena's Trinity Soap/Shampoo as a cleanser. DD is rarely in the bath for long as the minute she has access to her legs, she starts scratching. I think it is more habit than itching and (out of the bath) if her hands are covered she doesn't try and scratch.

I do cut and file her nails regularly but she hates that and really kicks up a fuss.

Hi Julesgs,

I keep scratch mits on my 11 month old DS in the bath. This way he can enjoy longer baths and doesn't break the skin when he scratches.

can you get little face cloth puppets shaped like animals- might be distracting for a while!

oh i remember this. dd1 was terrible for ripping her skin in the bath, she used to wind up in a worse state than she started with.

i known they say soak for x amount of minutes but when they are breaking the skin its better to take them out of the bath and calm/cream them.
