Messed up eczema steroid treatment - WW YD?

DS1 (7) has eczema on his leg which goes away with steroid cream but comes back as soon as we stop the treatment.

We were given a new cream mixed with vaseline, which we were supposed to give once a day for 7-10 days and then every 2-3 days for a month.

We gave it probably 3 days in a row and then it turns out that DH kept forgetting when it was his turn to do bedtime, so DS then had the cream every second day for another week or so. The eczema is better but not completely gone.

Would you abandon the whole thing and start again in a few weeks, or carry on doing every second day for a month, or start immediately with the 7 days in a row again?

Do every 5 days then go back to the every 2-3 days.
The every day thing it to blast it as it were, to get it under control and then the slow healing for the rest of the month.

eek every day for 5 days Blush

that's what I thought about blasting it, but was a bit worried about over-treating... thanks for the advice!

We have to do steroid cream every day as well but the skin gets used to it after a while. What we do now is have an emolient oil bath and them pat dry the skin and then the areas that are dry apply the steriod cream as it is going to sink it with the moisture of the emolient and do this twice a week I'm sure you will notice the a big difference.

Thanks... what is emolient oil though?
I think this is why he gave us the cream that is mixed with vaseline, so that it kind of moisturises at the same time.

Emolient is stuff you put in the bath there are a variety of makes and all can be prescribed through your GP. A few names are the E45 bath emoilent which is fantasic and leaves the skin soft and moist for hours and sometimes days depending on severity of the condition. There is Oilatum which didn't work for us but could work for you and the one we use for our son is Emulisderm which if you have more of a stubben conition which he does and if you have scaly skin. But try the E45 one first and I'm more than postive you will find a difference. If you didn't want to wait you can buy it first from any chemist or Boots. : )
Let me know how you get on : )

Thanks... we actually live in Luxembourg so no Boots here, but I will see what the chemist has to offer :)
