ds 11 weeks has got cold, teething and has conjunctivitus. Last night i gave him some calpol as his temp was high but a min later her was coughing like it was chocking/straining to be sick and vomited a few times. It also was frothy - at first i thought it was just phlem coming up with him having cold but he did it againthis morning after a dose

I'm just wondering if it's just after the calpol he is sick at the moment or also after feeding? Also, have you been able to administer it quite slowly, like in a syringe? I give my DD any med's like this and I find it helps. Good luck! xxx

His eyes are swollen but none apart from that. I gave him the medicine off a spoon, quite quickly

i would try giving it more slowly if you can. the syringes in nurofen for kids are fab and i use those for all the meds i give-calpol, infant gaviscon etc. sometimes the force of relatively big dose of something new can force it straight back up. worth a try for next dose maybe? xxx

Calpol used to make my DS1 sick, and still does sometimes even though he is now 10, usually when he has a throat infection. I don't think it is because the the ingredients, I think it because it is nasty sticky stuff which, when he has a cold and is phlegmy can make him gag and be sick.

He doesn't have the same trouble with ibuprofen which is less syrupy. Giving it by spoon or syringe doesn't make any difference. If he has it for reasons that aren't linked to colds and throat problems he isn't so sick.

I thought Calpol was fairly well tolerated which is why you can give it from such a young age so I would be surprised if it were an allergy but it might be worth getting it checked out.

My DS used to projectile Vomit calpol and have febrile convulsions. The Peadiatrician advised me to do it slowly via syringe and to add some water. (This was Tenerife though).

RE allergy: DS was fine for years but last time he had actual calpol he had hives rash on his face and then 6 hours later anaylphalactic shock. PEAD Cons doesn't think its the calpol but he has paracetamol suspension now.
