Dear mums,i just found out that my little one is allergic to milk and peanut. he's 5 mnths old and im exclusively breast feeding him.The doc(private) prescribed neocate but said no need to change my diet drastically. Im not convinced. He has very bad eczema which is getting better. Touch wood! Iv posted re: his eczema before. Can anyone advice on what I should avoid in my diet but a healthy enough diet so that he gets all the essential nutrients.

can't tell you about diet because I'm still trying to figure that one out myself however you might want to direct your cons to the new nice guidelines they specifically say you should be given diet advice on how to avoid allergens for breastfeeding mums. guidance.nice.org.uk/CG116

My son came up as sensitive to both of these, so I have been cooking for him without.

Rice and soya milk have calcuim added. The purer (darker) the chocolate, the less milk it has in it. Soya chocolate is not very nice (although they do do chocolate buttons, for potty-training! Grin).

There are some cheese substitutes in Holland and Barret, but they are not terribly nice (made with potato - ugh), so I wouldn't recommend them for you, only to a child who doesn't know any better!

My major problem with producing a dairy-free diet is not lack of availability, but the lack of fat in a dairy free diet, so do think about how to get round this when your son comes to be weaned. Meat and oils are the obvious way to go, but I am still struggling!

Thanks to everyone else, for the extra ideas and guidelines.
