wetwipes?

I was just getting 4mo DD dressed when I noticed a rash and welts on her neck and sholder, I haven't used any product apart from pampers sensitive wipes.
I've used the same brand of wetwipes since she was new born. So I wiped one over a small patch of leg and nothing but then she started squirming and her leg touched her tummy and a rash appeared (although not as bad as her shoulder and neck.

Has anyone had a similar reaction to wetwipes? Does anyone know what she might be reacting to inparticular?

They contain aloe & chamomile if that helps?

It sounds like it could be the perfume or the alcohol, it usually is. I've found wet wipes quite harsh on my skin so didn't bother with them for DS unless out. When we use perfume free sensitive ones from sains or waitrose. At home we use cotton wool and water plus flannels for the bum after a poo.

They are perfume and alcohol free so can't be that. Confused

I could never use pampers or johnsons wipes on DS (now 5) even the sensitive ones made him really sore! Not sure why Confused Huggies pure were the only thing we could use! Maybe try them?

My ds came up like a baboon at the nearest sighting of wet wipes, sensitive ones or not.

You could 'make your own' I know it sounds a faff, but it's not honest Use kitchen roll soaked in cooled camomile tea, works just as well and cheaper. If out take one of the handy travel wipes boxes with pre soaked sheets in. Smile simples

I am a nursery nurse and some children do have rashes after using wipes. For these children we normally just use water and cotton wool.

My sister is highly allergic to wetwipes. She will come out in a terrible rash within a few minutes. For her it is the parabens. She cannot use anything with any type of parabens (there are a few ethyl, propyl, methyl etc) or formaldahyde.
She can only use cotton wool and water on her baby.
Check the ingredients on your packet, even the 'simple' ranges can have these chemicals in.

Another vote here for Huggies Pure....my ds's skin couldn't cope with anything else!

DrSeuss · 28/02/2011 19:00

thenappylady.co.uk will show you how to make your own if that would help?

DD and I also have allergy to these pampers sensitive wipes...We both have no problem with the johnsons baby wipes though- try those. I find anything specifically for sensitive skin brings me out in a rash!

my dc never got on with wipes. We use washable nappies so it's no bother to us to just use a muslin cut up into wee squares and water, and then bung the lot in the wash together. If out and about I just take a dry muslin square - there is usually water on hand in nappy change areas and if not I usually have some on me anyway.

perfumed wipes in particular are hazardous for skin especially younger skins.. also dont use oils or lotions that contain perfumes.. no matter the make..

slightlymadmoo · 11/03/2011 10:33

completely agree, go fragrance free!

allergyhelp · 11/03/2011 11:10

I worked with pre fives for eighteen years and cant stand perfumed wipes. how any mum can use these is beyond me.. try using one on yourself after the toilet.. its not very pleasant I can assure you... all perfumes should be banned near a baby.. they dont have a choice but we do.. use Simple ones or other non perfumed wipes if you have to.. perfumes are a no no ....
