Help! I have heard that you have to watch out for Dextrin listed on ingredients as it has gluten in, and wheat, oats, barley, and rye have to be avoided, but is there anything else I need to steer clear of? Is Quorn okay? Thanks in advance.

Meat poatoes and veggies are fine. If you don't over complicate it, it is easy.

What were you thinking of cooking. You can get gluten free basics, like pasta from most supermarkets and if you look on line products always like gluten on allergy info

I have a friend who comes over who is dairy and gluten intollerant. As long as I cook real food its normally ok.

So roast dinner and gluten free gravey by bisto peeps.

Fish and roasted veg.

Pizza if I can make the bases in time and have all the right flour in...dairy free cheese.

x

I was going to do a chilli con carne and a spag bol - needs to be vegetarian too, will definitely be loading up on the veggies in the sauce!

hello there - my mother, MIL, BIL & DH all eat guten-free. wildhood your menu sounds good, but watch out for gluten in: veggie mince, stock cubes and tinned chili beans w/sauce. And if you're preparing gluten-free pasta, try to keep all utensils/colander seperate from those used for wheat to avoid contamination. bon appetite!

CointreauVersial · 24/02/2011 13:21

Here's a lovely gluten free pud recipe I often cook for my coeliac friend, the whole family love this. Serve with cream.

lipslave · 24/02/2011 13:43

Cointeau, my DP is Coealiac and I cook that delia pud too! Mmmmm

OP - you have to check 'allergy advice' on all packets. it will tell you if it contains wheat or gluten.

Indian food is usually a good bet too.

WildhoodChunder · 24/02/2011 14:38

Thanks, I will bear those tips in mind. The pudding looks delicious!

Be careful with cosmetics and body products too. You'd be amazed how many products aren't suitable for coeliacs and people with Gluten/wheat intolerances. Good luck Smile

how will you do spag bol? spaghetti has gluten in it and the corn versions are horrible

chilli sounds a good idea though

Celestialstarlight · 24/02/2011 14:42

sorry misread title of post...you need to "cook" for friend. Thought it said you need to "look" for...Oh well you could always make sure your hand soap is wheat/gluten free Hmm

I've got some rice pasta for the spagetti, no idea if it's nice or not. Actually wanting it to taste nice might be pushing things too far! It's all going to be cooked, bagged and chucked in friend's freezer as supplies. I had no idea about the cosmetics, I'm going to need some sort of decontamination suit on aren't I...

I am GF and think the corn spagetti is fine, as is the rice one. You have to watch it when it cooks though as it will clump together. Use lots of boiling water, salt and some olive oil and once ready, rinse in a colander with boiling water to get rid of all the starch.

GF cooking is pretty easy as long as you use non-fancy ingredients and watch your stock cubes and any other sauces you may want to include :)

feynman · 24/02/2011 20:49

Would just echo raedrenn's advice about making sure water's boiling first and you use olive oil and salt and rinse in boiling water. I also tend to run a fork through it when its cooking to prevent it clumping (it's much worse than normal pasta for this). Might we worth a mini trial run?
