he's probably only allergic to cashews and pistachios , which are apparently related to each other and unlike other tree nuts.

he has to have nut challenge with the other tree nuts and a raw egg challenge

unfortunately cashews and pistachios are more likely to cause serious reactions involving respiratory tract (ds asthmatic) so he still needs to carry epipen

also learnt that they no longer recommend having 2 epipen available at all times , just one needed as second rarely needed

so good appt and ds was very brave and had blood test Smile

Congrats on your ds's results....it feels good doesn't it.

My Ds had SPT this week as well;
Allergic to cashew, sesame and walnut.
Not allergic to hazelnuts, peanuts, eggs (which he was before!), brazil nuts, almonds.

I was told I could reintroduce egg now (slowly eg cake etc first). No bloods taken and no offer of challenges Confused.

What do you think I should do ???
(soz to hijack your thread but your ds sounds so similar to mine!!!)

jammygal- ds has been eating cooked egg for a while now . He did an egg challenge with the STAR study ,5 yrs ago, and we were told it was safe for him to eat egg cookked at 180c or mmmore for atleast 20 mins. He has been fine wih cake and even now has pancakes which I thought were pretty uncooked , but the consultant said they are quite cooked compared to say scrambled egg. He had one reaction when he ate homecooked brownies with loads of eggs and his lips swelled but was fine after some cetirizine.

Thanks for that info......very useful!!! Am starting ds off with tiny amount of jaffa cake and am building on it!! Any other tips? Order in which you introduced eggy food etc???

brimfull · 26/02/2011 22:11

We started with shop bought cake , ds was fine ,then went on to homemade cake.
He's only really had cake and pancakes .We did wait a while before trying pancakes but can't remember how long, sorry.Probably at least a yr or so.

He hasn't had pasta made with egg as he hates pasta.

Stupidly I can't think of any other foods with egg in it that he's had.

Thanks ggirl....any tips on exactly which shop bought cakes to start with? so many seem to have nut warnings on Confused

Thanks for your guidance though ....greatly appreciated...;)

Can I also ask the age of your ds now pls??? Ty x

Oh thats positive news GGirl. Best of luck for the challenge. I'm sure that must be nerve racking for both you and DS.

Interesting about epi-pens. DS cons gave me 3 (1school/1home and spare). School require 2 though so had to get another.

Is there any guidence about only 1 needed now?

brimfull · 28/02/2011 19:52

jammygal-I think I just bought plain cake ,tbh I take the nut warnings with a pinch of salt. If there are obviously no nuts and it's just a precautionary factory warning I ignore.

mumbar - don't know where the evidence is for only one epipen , but both allergy specialist nurse and consultant said only one is needed. I went into school today and handed in new pen as others were out of date. I just told receptionist that guidelines were that only one was needed now. She accepted without question .

As i had ordered two replacements for school I now have 3 at home .

Thanks ggirl DS school have insisted on 2, 1 for classroom and 1 for office. GP prescribed me more when I explained. I have 2 at home as have my 1 and a spare. Also has 1 at breakfast/afterschool club (its seperate and he goes to scool on a minibus) and they were happy with 1 as I explained its new guidelines.
