Allergies and intolerances

disappointed with dermatology appointment

After waiting 4 months for an appointment to see a consulatant dermatologist for my DS (10 months) who has severe excema- I feel utterly disappointed. He barely looked at my son's excema and all he wanted to do was prescribe steroids( been there, done that). We want allergy testing and he strongly advised us against these saying they were a waste of time. After some very strong persuasion from myself, he referred us to a paediatrician- another long wait I expect. I want my DS to have a comprehensive allergy testing- has anyone had their children tested for lots of things?? Does anyone know of an allergist that is willing to test for most foods/materials? I am willing to go private and don't care about the cost. I really want to help my baby and try and ease his suffering a little. Please get in contact if you have any experience of this

Thanks

two good allergists are Michael Markeiwicz 020 7460 5700 (general paed at chelsea and westminster but also does private allergy clinic at the cromwell hospital) and Gideon Lack 020 7930 8347, a paediatric allergy and immunology specialist at St Mary's Paddington, who also has a private list at the Portland consulting rooms.

Those are the private numbers. they both do allergy testing. I've seen both of them for different things and they are both good. Good luck!

whereabouts are you? You may have to travel to London to see someone privately. You need to be a bit wary as anyone can call themselves an allergist. This is a good list of clinics for medically qualified people but quite a few don't see private patients

www.bsaci.org/clinics.html

Haven't used it myself but I like the look of the Surrey Allergy Clinic. www.allergy-clinic.co.uk
Website has good information on testing.

Do you have your son on probiotics with flaxseed oil yet? They can work wonders, did for my son's eczema.

I'd phone the paediatrician and ask how long their waiting list is. If you can go at short notice tell them that as you may get offered a cancellation then. Even if you go privately you may then want the NHS appointment. If there are allergies you'll want repeat testing later.

Good luck.
