Have you encountered this situation?
My daughter is dairy and soya intolerant and 2 1/2 years old. Yesterday we tried making chocolates with coconut oil mixed with cocoa powder. She had 1 and instantly became bright red on her cheeks, hands and arms and had a tiny bit of eczema later.
Same reaction the previous day with almond brownie and sometime ago with chicken korma.

Is there a risk of developping a strong nut intolerance? Can I give her nuts now and again?

My mum who is also cmp intolerant cooks with almond milk and almond butter a lot, and I must say not only does it tastes good but it is nutritionaly fantastic as well. tempting.

have you had similar experience or advice in this field?

Seek medical advice. A friend has today lost her child to a nut allergy. I am not trying to frighten you but it's very important you get her checked.

your poor friend atswim how devastating
did they know their child was allergic? how old were they?
I met someone recently who had lost their 14 yr old to an asthma attack just so sad

atswimtwolengths · 05/02/2011 13:13

Yes, allergic throughout their life. Sorry, don't want to identify much here, it's been a terrible, terrible shock.

I really don't know how parents and siblings live through this. Awful for your friend too with the 14 year old. Just dreadful.

not1not2 · 05/02/2011 13:16

of course
how utterly tragic

agree it must have felt so 'empty' without her

I have friends who have nut allergic dcs and I really feel for them

tulipe · 05/02/2011 15:49

Her whole world must have crumbled into pieces, that's soooo sad. Big hugs to you two.

Going back to my DD, redness and a bit of eczema, that's all.
Am i nuts if I give her nuts?

You are nuts if you give her nuts. Food allergies often get worse, not better with multiple exposures. The first few times might be red skin and then the next could be an anaphylactic attack. You MUST have her checked out by a specialist. You should probably avoid all nuts until then. By the way, if your dd is only dairy intolerant, rather than allergic, it my be worth trying to slowly expose her to milk so that she can start having it again, as it will be enough trouble avoiding nuts without having to avoid dairy as well.

Sorry I realise I ignored your question.
Basically what Sofia said, I would ask GP to get her tested vv important to do so and avoid nuts in the interim

but really you should ask someone qualified (I know your just seeking experiences etc but thought I should say that in case someone else reads this later IYSWIM)

Yes get her tested. My DS started with red/ flushed face and gradually over a year has got worse - and we can't identify to what which is worse.

It may just be a contact allergy but surely better to have all the facts.

As people above had said allergies can be fatal - it is horrible having to accept your childs increased risk of fatality but I have come to realise that it is better to be forewarned (allergy testing) and forearmed (AH's/epi-pens). The psecial diet is a PITA but a small inconvience on balance.

atswim sorry to hear about friends dc.
