Hi there,

Do you happen to know an allergy specialist in or near Bristol who perhaps specialises in babies (my DS is 8 months old).

Thanks in advance.

There is this clinic

www.bsaci.org/clinics/detail/r/43/search/all/id/32

As its only 4 sessions a week they may do sessions elsewhere or be "consultants with an interest". However if they are memebers of the professional body they should be pretty well trained. I think this was one of the places where I rang the secretary and was told they didn't do private work. If there is a private hospital in Bristol they may do sessions there and the secreatry just got it wrong - your gp can speak to the consultant and find out.

Thanks for your messages - will check and take info on each one. Thanks.

Basic problem is as follows (and as briefly as possible);

  1. DS - nearly 9 months.
  2. Had allergic reaction ten days ago due to two pea-sized amounts of humous (which I am sure they can have from 6 months of age).
  3. A&E doc gave us Piriton and advised to give him it next time and then go to A&E.
  4. Husband and I do not want a next time!
    Plus;
  5. Allergic - or had extreme case of eczema from about one month to five months - settling now as we changed formula to Soya based SMA.
  6. Asked for GP referral to the Homeopathic Hospital in Bristol - advised that maybe my craving of over four pints of milk per day during pregnancy probably did not help!!! No kidding!
  7. Given homeopathic tincture and this relieved his ezcema immensely, as well as the mucous on his chest for which we'd been given Ventolin inhalers and other forms of inhaler - have not had to use since using homeopathic tincture.

    So there's my problem - clearly DS is allergic to something in humous (most likely to be sesame seeds) but need to know if there is a specialist around to test for other allergens.

Podmog - would advise if your 1 yr old is still having problems with chest and Eczmea to ask for referral to the Homeopathic Hospital in Bristol - I saw a male Doctor who is also trained in Homeopathy (and has ten of his own children so knows his stuff). Lovely man and took a good hour to get my and DS's medical history - saw him on the and was prescribed homeopathic tincture(on the NHS) and it's been very good. Cleared the eczema and chest up - and he's had one cold since which did not fully develop to his chest like last time because I used the tincture again over three days and hey presto!!!

re podmog's post: gideon lack's nhs practice is at st mary's paddington, his private practice is run out of the private consulting rooms at the portland hospital.
he is good, I've seen him before.
can't help you with bristol. Healthcare in bristol is, generally speaking, a disaster area (except for bristol eye hospital)... IMO (gleaned from a long succession of various family disasters!)

realised my message would make more sense if I explained. When I was looking for private allergy tests I found sometimes the secretary wouldn't give information about private work, they just told you to ring the private hospital. Also had information from one chief executive, who had checked with their medical director, that turned out to be wrong when my gp checked personally with the doctors. Hence I now advise everyone to check though their gp (after you've checked yourself so you know what doctors you want him to speak to). We ended up with an NHS blood test

hsanders

We went down the Conventional route with Hospital allergy consultants and eventually found due to the Hospital consultants being unable to detect dd food allergies, Jackie Norton at Prestberries Farm in Hartbury Glos. She was spot on and dd came off meds hospital prescribed (real cocktail!) and has been 100% ever since (5 years ago). I know others have some faith in the allergy specialists in mainstream medicine but I did not find them accurate or particularly knowledgeble in food allergies - Jackie is a Knieslogist and Nutrionalist. Sounds like your ds is reacting favourable to homeopathic treatments but it may be worth getting his actual allergies diagnosed fully?

fimac1 - sounds like a good plan - conventional medicine does have it's place but as you say DS has reacted well to homeopathy so should try to stay along those lines really.

I will google jackie Norton and give her a call - plus get GP to refer anyway as it'll take at least four/six months anyway and at least we're in the system then if we need any HNS/conventional medicine.

Thanks everyone - I was actually just talking with one of my best friends whose DS is almost 4 months and her health visitor is seeing her at home today - no disrespect but my health visitor did not advise homeopathy for my DS's eczema so I doubt she'd recommend anything other than GP referral! They don't have time, most of the time, to think/advise on anything other than Gvt guidelines!

Mumsnet is my personal health visitor and I don't even have to go anywhere to get the advise...so thanks again.
