Dairy free party food

Dd has two friends coming for her birthday party whom are allergic to dairy & have epipens for this. Their mum is going to bring some food for them but I would like to try to cater at least a little for them. What sweeties could I put in pass parcel and party bags for example? Any tips on party food. The other children will be having a sandwich, crisps, cake and grapes. Capri sun to drink. Any advice would be very much appreciated! Thank you!

Sandwiches - use a dairy free margarine and have a dairy free filling (chicken, ham or tuna)
Crisps - if you just have plain crisps with no flavourings you will be fine
Cake - make with the dairy free margarine (I assume the children aren't allergic to eggs) and ice with glace icing
Mini sausages (check the ingredients list - watch out for whey)
You could makw some biscuits with dairy free marge as well
Sweets - you will need to check the ingredients - again watch out for whey)

I've got a party tomorrow for my DS, who is lactose-intolerant at the moment.

I'm looking up a dairy-free recipe for sponge cake and using Lacto-free cream cheese & icing to make a 'buttercream' topping (which tastes good, btw, especially with some vanilla added). I'm also making macarons, as I've got some egg whites to use up and they'll add a bit of colour but time-wise, that's not perhaps such a good idea for you, geisha?

And otherwise we're pretty much in line with what Bunbaker's posted - little cups of fruit, crisps and mini sausages.

But more than anything else, it's just lovely of you to take the trouble to cater for them. Hope you have a good time!

Great thank you both. Any tips on sweets? Obviously not chocolate but hairdo or opal fruits? Is there a particular brand of bread that is suitable?

You do need to check the ingredients on both hairbo and many chewy sweets. Recently i have found examples where both of these types have had dairy.
They now also do mini packs of party rings, which go well in party bags. Most of the major supermarkets also do small chocolate lollipops and buttons that are dairy free.

my dd who is 8 was allergic to all dairy, nuts and egg most of her life although is ok with dairy (and some cooked ingredient egg) now. when she was allergic to all dairy etc this is what i would provide at all her parties from age 1 up to 6!!:

sainsburys sausage rolls (the cheap ones) as no egg or dairy, sandwiches using soya butter, soya cheese, potted salmon or chicken paste etc etc (fillings are simple, won't bore you), but also you could do tuna may (egg and dairy free mayo from the free from sections in ie sainsburys etc or holland & barratts). if you wanted you could make a dairy free cake, i make a sponge that doesn't require eggs, milk or butter and tastes good, more like a suet sponge but good. small cocktail sausis always went down well, you can buy them from m&s and sainsburys. i could go on for ages but i think the get the idea :)

Why not chocolate? There are plenty of dairy-free chocs about. example www.goodnessdirect.co.uk/cgi-local/frameset/detail/520249_Humdinger_Dairy_Free_White_Chocolate_Buttons_25g.html

Rainydaze · 22/01/2011 23:05

Sorry, I don't think my link worked. Try here for dairy-free choc

geisha · 23/01/2011 08:19

Thanks everyone. I hadn't realized dairy free chocolate was so widely commercially available. Will head off to the supermarkets tomorrow to check out. It would be nice not to have to give the children concerned anything different from the others.

Kinnerton brand does a lot of dairy-free choc lollies for children, including Peppa Pig, Toy Story, Roary the Racing Car, Thomas the Tank Engine etc, etc. Available in lots of supermarkets.
