I have been told to avoid giving nuts to my daughter till se is at least 3yrs as I get hayfever, mild eczema.

Does anyone know if I can give her chestnuts. I wanted to make her a chocolate cake for her b'day but the recipe has chestnuts in it to make it totally delicious.

Don't know really, DS is allergic to nuts (he tried a peanut at 2, and he developed the allergy ), In the case of DS we need to avoid everything that has the word "nut" within its name with the exception of coconut and nutmeg.

I think Tatt can help you better on that, but just to avoid a problem, I would better err on the safe side and get a different recipee, it may be OK for your DD but you never know in the case of other children attending the party, specially if they are younger.

Carameli my ds2 is allergic to nuts and I have been advised to avoid chestnuts too. The reason I was given from my specialist was that all of the nut proteins are very similar and the risk of cross-contamination in the processing is extremely high because most suppliers would process more than one type of nut. Tatt or bobbybob could probably help with more info.

Better not to. We have had similar advice as mymama - nuts are often stored together and therefore they are often contaminated with traces of other nuts. Even if you are allergy tested clear for a particular type of nut you are advised to avoid them unless you personally shelled them (and washed your hands after touching the shell).

Carameli a few moments pleasure now could give you a lifetime of problems, it just isn't worth it.
