Do I push for consultants opinion?

Hi everyone.

Thanks for all the support I've had so far.

It's been 3 weeks now since I saw the GP after DS bad reaction, he contacted DS consultant but I haven't heard anything so far.

Should I ring the GP and see if he's heard anything?

I am beginning to realise how on edge I am about it happening again and how worried I am it could be worse next time and I only have chlorphenamine liquid or ceterizine tablets.

WWYD?

yes, he saw a pead consultant back in March. Nothing really came of the RAST test. IgE was 14 and no clear reaction to tomato or peanuts. He does have hayfever and had some really bad reactions during the summer months.

The GP dictated a letter to the same consultant explaining DS had had a bag reaction, facial swelling and breathing affected and did she feel he should have anything else at home. He mentioned to me about having an epipen.

I've heard nothing. I'm not sure how to get hold of pead cons secretary but I expect the surgery could give me that information?

Thats an idea, I'm not sure which hospital her secretary is in but I'll try the one DS saw her at. I have spoken to the secretary before and he is a gem so I know she'll be extremly helpful.

Oh yes never thought of that.

Thing is I'm not pushy enough sometimes I think.

Tonight I was talking to one of my Father's friends whos had his own private ambulance business for 30 years. He asked to see pictures of DS (taken during bad reaction)and told me that he needs an epipen, he says he can see the swelling in his throat in the pics, and the number of children/adults he's been out to who have had reactions like DS then been fine for a year and had another when your guard is down is very high. He basically said it would be great never to use it but better if have it it needed.

I was a bit Shock at what he said but tbh the minute I showed the GP the pics he got straight onto the consultant so I'm thinking they must have some concerns?

Thanks just looked her up on google, it refers me to the hosptia; in the PCT where peads used to be. It says she works for the PCT so will try switchboard and just ask.

GP told me quite firmly not to delete the pics so he may be thinking she'll give me another apt? I do not care I just want some answers!

Thanks nottirednow.

I've rung the GP surgery and spoken to the receptionist. She confirmed the letter was sent on 1st December. She said GP will get the reply.

I'm trying to locate the consultant office as 3 hospital all belong to the one trust!!

I'll definatly ask for email and send the picture - thats a brilliant idea.

This is why I love MN Grin

Ah ha, have got through to the secretary. They have recieved the letter which needs to be 'graded'. I expect that means looking at the severity, priortising.

I reiterated again how bad he was and how concerned I was about the next time being worse so hopefully they'll consider it necessary to see him sooner rather than later.

They'll send me a letter once he has an appointment.
