Yorktest or food intolerance UK? Experience please

I've finally persuaded my husband to take one of the big food intolerance tests to see what exactly he is intolerant to (because we suspect the answer is lots of things and it is severely affecting what we can eat!) I have been recommended the Yorktest by a nutritionist I met, but I've seen the advert for Food Intolerance UK for their test which is about half the price. If any of you have experience (particularly of the cheaper option), could you let me know what you thought? Thanks.

The only reliable way to check for intolerance/allergies is by a carefully monitored exclusion diet or RAST blood testing (normally done at a hospital). I have no idea what the tests you mentioned are but anything less than the above will not give reliable results.

Has he seen his GP?

Neither. See the GP, the rest is a waste of your money.

afaik there is no way of testing properly for intolerances.
you can test for allergies, but not intolerances. this was confirmed by the allergy lady at hosp when i took ds2 last week!

Okay. Thanks for your help.

If you suspect a food intolerance the best thing to do is keep a detailed daily diary of everything he eats. When he is having a particularly bad day with symptoms mark that day with a red line or something. At the end of 6 weeks you should be able to see a pattern emerging and then you can eliminate those foods that were eaten on the bad days. It is time consuming but it does work, I managed to find out the foods that weren't agreeing with me. Like others have said you will be told that intolerance tests are accurate by the people who sell them but in fact they are not. Only a RAST blood test or skin prick test carried out by an allergist can be used to diagnose a food allergy NOT an intolerance.
