princessProudmel · 23/10/2010 12:13

Ok it's not going well!!

The larger one cracked at the top and you can see that the inside is not cooked atall.

The smaller one seems firmer...

:( It's for ds2's 1st birthday :(

We never have a problem either, did scones with pure and alpro soya milk yesterday and thy turned out lovely Grin

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 23/10/2010 12:23

Have you done it in an unusal shaped tin? I had a problem last year when I tried to cook dd1's birthday cake in a bowl (toadstool cake!) Some times you need to turn down the heat and increase baking time to compensate for the volume/ shape of the container

princessProudmel · 23/10/2010 12:25

No proper cake tin borrowed from my mum.

The bigger one is quite deep. I'll lower oven temp.

What reciepe did you use

I stick to 6oz fat/ flour/ sugar and 3 eggs (or multiples of depending on size I need cake to be)

princessProudmel · 23/10/2010 12:25

And yes when I made a princess dress cake in a christmas pudding bowl the middle was RAW! :(

I use Pure for my baking and had no problems at all with it. What temp is your oven?

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 23/10/2010 12:27

I don't know whetehr some baking parchment over the top would help stop it going any darker in colour on top whilst the rest cooks (I know you can do this for christmas cakes etc?)

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 23/10/2010 12:29

Good luck that's me out of ideas now I hope your DS has a good birhday!

princessProudmel · 23/10/2010 12:35

It's cooking!!!!! Grin

It was on 200 now on 100. I am guessing temps, making it up as I go along.

princessProudmel · 23/10/2010 12:37

Mix - 8 oz flour, sugar, pure, 4 eggs. In 2 tins.

pintyblud · 23/10/2010 12:39

SHould be absolutely fine. Your temp was very high. I cook cakes at 170. 100 is ridiculously low.

cece · 23/10/2010 12:40

For that recipe I set the oven at 180 for about 20 mins. If that is any help for future reference.

princessProudmel · 23/10/2010 12:41

LOL! I am not very good at this! Yes it prob was, I think I normally do 180. Just turned it down to 100 to carry on cooking the middle, it looks a bit stodgy.

Tbh not bothered about it's looks as it's going to be turned into a cat :)

Thanks Doris :)

cece after 20 mins on 200 it was still very wet inside. I think it was too hot and a big tin. :)

OP posts:
cece · 23/10/2010 13:55

Is that quantity in one big tin or two sandwich tins?

princessProudmel · 23/10/2010 17:55

2 tins :)
