Hi
Long story but still no answers from the experts.

My dd from birth was sick, diarrohea and blood in stools. Milk allergy diagnosed.
Sher is now 2 years old

If anything it seems she is getting worse so she is now on a milk, wheat, gluten, soya, nuts and eggs free diet. (at the suggestion of the the dietician and paed)
Nuts - have caused a instant wheeze

She has epipens.

Confusion starts with the tests. She shows negative to everything.

one minute paed is talking to me about allergies then the next thing he is sending letter to dd drs saying intolerances. In one report he says at the beginning of it that negative to tests and then half way through the report says that she was positive.
My DD own dr has said to me she has clinical allergys?

Yesterday went to hospital to egg challenge. (dd has never had a proper egg as told to avoid them because of her milk allergy?)
Explained to the nurse that dd has had egg in products so after consulting dd paed (who wouldnt come and talk to me) went straight on to scrambled egg challenge.

dd took 1st bit (size smaller than a baked bean) ok, 15 mins later took another bit (size abit bigger than a baked bean) seemed ok. when they tried her on the 3rd bit,she refused to take it.
They then tried to get her to eat abit of boiled egg which she refused to eat.
Then got told there was nothing else they could do if she wouldnt eat it so might as well go home as no reaction.
Got told off for letting her drink juice ( i hadnt been told otherwise)
2 hours after the egg challenge DD trying to go to sleep (doesnt have a nap anymore)nothing we tried would keep her awake. also 7 nappies later(within the space of 3 hours),grouchy and a bad night.

sorry for rambling just dont know what to do anymore.
Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated
Thank you

sounds like the egg made her feel nauseated hence her refusal
do you mean she had 7 bouts of diarrhoea?

rugrats3 · 23/10/2010 11:38

yes 7 lots of diarrhoea

def intolerant then
my ds had egg challenge with the STAR study in cambridge but it was done with a cupcake so the egg was cooked longer than with scrambled egg
he managed the whole cake over the space of an hr I think but was feeling sick by the end of it ,they concluded that he
was no longer allergic but could eat egg that had been cooked at 180deg for atleast 20 min
this was 5 yrs ago and he now can eat pancakes -

so what was their conclusion?

she sounds like she is still allergic to eggs that are in rawish state
ds was like this but grew out of it by 4yrs
most children do

what allergy clinic do you attend?

rugrats3 · 23/10/2010 11:49

James paget hospital is where we go.

Their attitude at the end of it was that she wasnt going to eat anymore and as she hadnt had a reaction she cant be allergic to it.

starting to lose faith with that hospital but last time i asked my dr to refer her somewhere else he asked me to give them one more chance. Dont know whether they will let her be seen by someone else

Poor you Sad I feel your pain...

My DD (2.9) is severely intolerant (diarrea (sp) bloating etc) to dairy, soya & oats.

She is also suspected to be have coeliacs and having tests next month.

I slso have the same confusion over my DD's tests for allergies which came back negative but now she has started to come up in a rash when she has soya (had some by accident last month) which may suggest its now an allergy

When are you next at the clinic??

brimfull · 23/10/2010 11:54

well technically I suppose they are assuming no anaphylactic reaction at time of eating so she's not allergic
she is still v intolerant of rawish eggs
so I guess you can only wait until she is older and they retest
how about the other allergies?

ilovemydogandMrObama · 23/10/2010 11:55

DS gastro consultant uses the term 'allergic' although DS isn't anaphylactic, but severely intolerant.

I think what the hospital meant was that since she didn't have a reaction means that she isn't anaphylactic, but this doesn't mean that she doesn't have a severe intolerance; it just means that the reaction is different.

Next due to see the dietician in jan and havent got a appt for the paed.

Cashew - instant wheeze and cough

wheat and gluten - make her irratable, stomach ache, diarrohea

|Soya - goes straight through her literally.

they think she is asthmatic as well.
Some times she eats something then the cough starts and will be there for the rest of the day.

Thank u for all your answers
