Dairy-free sorbet recipes?

I have just bought an ice cream maker so I can make sorbets for DS1, but the few sorbet recipes in the accompanying booklet all use summer fruit that isn't really available now.

Anyone have any recipes I could do now, or can you point me in the direction of a good recipe book?

I made an nice icecream for my dairy/egg allergic DD with birds custard powder, Kara coconut milk, cocnut cream (from a tin) and cacao. Very thick and "creamy".

If you want to do a summer fruit sorbet, frozen berries are very good.

I do one with coconut milk, fruit and a bit of sugar in the food processor and freeze in ice cube trays.

Although liking the ice cream machine idea Smile

Thanks all of you - frozen berries are a good idea, and the coconut milk sounds lovely too (though I don't know whether DS will agree!).

Am a bit reticent about using rice milk as I mostly don't like anything made with rice or soy milk, whereas I know I like sorbet :) That sounds selfish I know, but if I find things I can make that I like as well as DS then I feel less resentful about all the extra food preparation an allergic child brings!

I have an ice-cream maker and do a dairy-free "ice-cream" with puréed mango, coconut milk (or coconut cream if you want it a bit richer) and sugar. It's really easy and tastes yummy.

Another alternative is fruit, oat cream and sugar in the ice-cream maker. There are some good recipes here www2.oatly.com/, but I use the cream instead of the milk to make it richer (ds2 needs all the calories he can get!).

Thanks, will try both of those. Can you give me an idea of the quantities for the coconut milk one?

I usually use a tin of coconut milk or cream. sugar would be about 90g and mango puree - as much as you want. I usually use the tins of mango puree that you often find with the curry stuff in the supermarket. It's much easier than fresh mango.

fab, thanks! didn't realise you could buy mango puree - we aren't in the uk so there isn't much curry stuff, but I think there may be some in the 'international' aisle.
