what has happened to Pure sunflower spread?

or is it just me that thinks the taste has changed recently?

I used to find the sunflower spread the most bland flavour - which I like - but the latest tub I have opened has a much stronger flavour and reminds me very much of the sweetness they have in their soft 'cheese' spread.

anyone else think its changed flavour?

Hmmm... I hadn't noticed it, I'm off to smell some spread.

Our local Sainsburys has stopped selling it though, which is a huge nuisance. Tescos is miles away, down a long gridlocked road.

BubsMaw · 13/10/2010 13:37

Nope, ours still tastes the same. Bought it perhaps wks ago though.

mintyneb · 13/10/2010 20:11

my MIL has been having the same problems with her Sainsburys as well, i wonder if they have stopped selling it nationally? Oh well it looks like I've just got wierd tastebuds at the moment!

I think it tastes different to! My hubby thinks not but we use the sunflower one and it definitely tastes stronger to me.

auntevil · 14/10/2010 13:48

I try not to use it myself, but the boys haven't said that it's changed.

janek · 14/10/2010 13:59

they don't sell it any more in our local sainsburys either. they still sell the green one (soya?), but they have their own 'free from' spread now, so presumably that's why. my mum reckons it's just as good, but i don't always trust her opinion. they do sell pure in our local co-op though.

thisisyesterday · 14/10/2010 14:02

i haven't bought it for ages because i've started using vitalite which is cheaper :)

does have a strongish taste though

the sainsburys own brand is fine though

ronshar · 14/10/2010 14:06

I have to go specifically to Waitrose as that is the only shop locally which sells the sunflower spread.
Why have they changed it? Why do they do that?

I havent seen the Sainsbury own. I shall have to look as it will save me the extra trip to the lovely shop with expensive stuff!

Yup v annoying about Sainsers stopping it. Found it in Cooperative though. £1.46 which is about half the price I'd just paid for it in our poncy health shop.

superoz · 15/10/2010 09:44

Have you tried hassling your local Sainsburys manager? If you kick up enough of a fuss and it isn't an initiative across all stores they will restock sometimes - I did this when my local stopped stocking Kinnerton chocolate.

mintyneb · 15/10/2010 10:28

ah will have to check out vitalite now and tell MIL to look for Sainsburys own. I'm in the (un)fortunate position where Waitrose is my nearest supermarket but I do find it to be the only place where I can reliably buy the little cartons of Alpro chocolate soya milk that DD loves. i can rarely get them at my Tescos or Sainsburys

superoz, i rang Waitrose head office when they stopped selling Kinnerton chocolate and were only offering a dairy free chocolate bar containing hazelnuts Hmm - no good for DD who is on a dairy and nut free diet. Was told at the time that they were having supply problems but were not discontinuing it.

So why when it came back had the bars shrunk from 100g to 85g?? As ronshar says, why do these companies have to change things?

They still have some here www.goodnessdirect.co.uk/cgi-local/frameset/detail/408545_Pure_Sunflower_Spread_500g.html and mine smells pretty normal, but I taste it more carefully now you have mentioned it.
