Hi my DS is one this month and is allergic to cmp, egg, peanuts, wheat, rice and banana.
He isnt bad thank god only hives so far no swelling but it makes feeding him such a challenge.
Up until this week his diet was like this
morning - 5oz neocate + 2oz in millet porridge
lunch - meat and veg dinner + 1/2 pot soya yogurt
afternoon - 4oz neocate
tea - veg dinner
bedtime - 7oz neocate
during the night anywhere between 5-10oz

This week he is barely eating at all, taking about 13oz neocate during the day, no porridge, a few spoons of dinner and yogurt. To compenstae he is waking 3 times at night for milk and not going back to sleep until he has about 5/6oz each time. The resut is he is eating less during the day - its turning into a vicious cycle. He wont settle with water/soother it has to be milk.

My main problem is the lack of finger food and choice. His only ff are cucumber, carrot and organix snax. He doesnt have a sweet tooth and wont eat custard or fruit.

I used to give DD a pudding before bed like tapioca/rice pud/semolina to fill her up. DS can only have tapioca, i have tried making it with neocate but its very glue like and he wont eat it.
Can i make this with soya milk?
Is coconut milk suitable for a peanut allergy (i dont know about tree nuts)

I cant give him bread, all gluten free ones are make with rice flour so he cant have them.

Please has anyone suggestions for finger food, heavier carby foods to fill him at night and a recipe for bread/cake etc thats suitable for him.

I am 3 months pregnant with third baby and im exhausted from him waking 2/3 times a night still at a year old. He is a good sleeper, he is waking genuinely hungry but is such a bad eater during the day.

Is neocate not as filling as other standard formulas?

Thanks for any advice.

Neocate contains coconut oil, so if your dd is able to tolerate it without problems coconut milk should be ok.

Spelt bread can be nice if you can find it, or alternatively try and get some spelt flour to make bread with. You could also try rye bread but the texture is heavier and very different, dd is not that fussy and eats it. There is a savoury crispbread type thing you can get called Corn Thins, in Tesco, Ocado or health food shops - she loved these. Organix do maize and corn snacks too.

Also Plum now do some spelt biscuits? They are in the baby aisle and should be available at most supermarkets(Tesco, Sainsburys etc) or Boots.

Pieces of chopped avocado also good as a finger food - high in calories too.

Spelt is not wheat or gluten free - beware !

If you make some buckwheat pancakes, you can freeze them and microwave when you want. Buckwheat also makes a good porridge

Spelt is an 'old' form of wheat. Some people with a wheat intolerance can manage it, but it is not gluten free

my ds is allergic to cows milk, egg, nuts, fish and shellfish, we found out when he was 6 mnths old, he is now 3.he has 2 epi pens as reactions cause anaphylactic shock.

had a terrible time trying to find things he could eat, he too has neocate and soya milk (loves the choc one).

neocate nutra has been a lifesaver i mix it into his soya yogurt or porridge to add some extra nutrients, etc and he doesnt seem to notice.

he will eat tons of fruit and veg but it doesnt fill him up at all, luckily he will eat things such as spagetti bolognese, chicken etc so iam hoping he gets enough protein in his diet.

there are some good recipes on neocate website.

in terms of sleeping he still wakes at night and constantly tells me he is hungry.we see a dietician every so often to keep an eye on his weight and she suggested a vitamin and iron supplement.

hope things start to get better i know how difficult it is

Thanks so much for all the advice and ideas. Unfortunately DS cant eat spelt, i gave him a couple of spoons of spelt porridge and he broke out in big hives over his head and belly, the dietician said it has low levels of wheat in it.

I made him tapioca with soya milk yesterday and he loved it, it had a much better consistency than making it with neocate. I got coconut milk (coconut is a fruit not a nut, you learn something new everyday !!) to alternatate with the soya milk as i think you are only supposed to give a certain amount of soya.

I actually bought buckwheat flour last weekend and will try making pancakes from it.

I bought him baby sweetcorn cobs and green beans to try as finger food.

I bit the bullet and tried him with banana again this morning - the last time was about 2-3 months ago and the dietician said to try again after a couple of months. So far so good he ate a few bites, had it rubbed on his face and no reaction so hopefully that means it he is going to be ok with it.

I will take a look on the neocate website for recipes.

Funnily enough for the little amount he eats he is a good weight, he is 25lbs and in 18-24 month clothes. The hospital were suprised with his size as usually babies with allergies are lighter - but i do know he gets very hungry at night, he isnt able to go too long without food.

Thanks again.

Sweet potato chips work really well - I used to do a mix of roast veggies like parsnips, carrots, beetroot and sweet potato, and ds loved them.

You can get buckwheat, corn, or quinoa pasta from Goodness direct, and you might want to try him with certified wf/gf oats

my son has allergies to dairy and egg and toms, one of the things i used to use for finger foods was a annablel karmel recipe for chicken balls.

my simple form of the recipe is chicken/turkey puree with some chopped apple or cooked carrots, you can add whatever other flavourings you want i think the recipe says herbs.shape them we make into dinosaurs now but used to do small balls.
Then you coat with breadcrumbs, it says to coat with flower egg then breadcrumbs, but we coat in soya milk then use breadcrumbs( gluten free) from the special foods isle, then you just fry them, there lovely and easy!
we have used cornflakes for the coating also, but not sure if these are suitalbe of if theres a alternative.

If he's allergic to wheat, it would be a good idea to consider whether he's coeliac as could be gluten that is the problem. Check out the charity Coeliac.org.uk for lots of info on this. Although as I'm Coeliac and my son reacts like I do to gluten I have resolved to get him tested for this at an older age. The only way to get diagnosed is to make them ill on gluten which damaged their gut (eventually repairs on a GF diet), so am not going to do this with a toddler!

My food blog had glutenfree and lactose free recipes gluten-freedairy-freemamauk.blogspot.co.uk/. I use rice flour in lots of recipes but you can replace this with millet/quinoa flour. You may find chickpea flour a good one to use as it is very filling due to high protein content. Popadoms are usually made from lentil or chickpea flour and the plain uncooked ones are often GF. I cook them for 1 min in microwave (rather than frying) and make a good crisp snack for my little one. Popcorn is another good snack.

I'm not sure all the ingredients but my friends recommend EnerG brand egg replacer for baking.

Sorry for the rambling message hope some of it helps!
