Hi, wondering if i could get some advice?? Every year, usually in the summer i get a sore on one side of my face(always the same side)which develops into blisters and is very painful, the sore sits right around my cheekbone and is acompanied by swelling which reaches from my eye (which then sags) right down to my neck, this usually lasts for just under a week and then the sore starts to heal. I am then left with a scar which stays with me for around 6 months. The last time i had this was this summer whilst camping in France, the campsite had lots of trees and scrubs, was wondering if that had anything to do with it?? Just can't but my finger what the cause could be... I suffer for migraines and get headaches when i eat strong foods like garlic and chillis, always have a blocked/itchy nose, most days esp if it rains i have a headache, really bad if i'm exposed to damp/mould. Usually by the time i get an appointment with my GP my face is in the healing period so my GP just tells me to come back if it happens again as he has not got a clue what it could be... Any advice would be appreciated.

DO you always sleep on the same side? Is it the side in contact with the pillow or the other side? Do you use fly spray or anything like that in the bedroom?

Rindy · 24/09/2010 10:19

Hi Thumbwitch, No, i dont sleep on the same side all the time and no to the fly spray or anything like that in the house... I have to add this has happened to me when i was in the states, France and also at home, driving me nuts..

Had a thought - probably way out there and I don't even know if it's possible - it sounds almost like a kind of cold-sore, only much bigger and not round your mouth. Is there any chance it could be some kind of virus, maybe even a chickenpox virus that's gone a bit weird, or a herpes virus that has gone somewhere it shouldn't have?

Might be something to suggest to the doc, see if they can test you for it? It does seem very odd, I must say.

Rindy · 24/09/2010 15:46

People have suggested it may be some kind of virus, it drives me nuts not knowing what it is or what sets it off!! Thanks for your input Thumbwitch, will certainly mention to doc. :)

thats what my DS gets on his face in the same place which turns into hives. He gets this in summer with his hayfever and has it carried on this year. Gp thinks it might be a pollen allergy.

Rindy · 27/09/2010 10:50

That's wot i was thinking when in france in the summer, it was so painful.. Did the GP give any advice re: wot to take?

DS was taking chlorephenamine (puiton is one of the brands) when needed then 4x a day. He is now taking ceterizine hydrochloride once a day (more antihistamine in this 1 dose and non-drowsy) He has the clorophenamine to take as well if needed but he has only had this twice since starting the tablets 3 weeks ago. GP did a test by scratching on his back and welts came up so he said no products with soap perfume etc (prescibed creams and bath stuff). We went to the woods yesterday and he was fine so fingers crossed if this is the cause the tablets are working.

Seeing GP Friday and tablets run out - so may discuss where to go from here.

You can by the antihistamines he takes over the counter as I buy them for my hayfever (early season only)

sounds like a cold sore/herpes virus, i used to get this on the same place on my neck after ex DH kissed me there when he had a cold sore. Luckily hasn't flared up for a few years now but i have had to take anti viral tablets for it in the past.

Thanks for all the advice, very helpful, going to go back to my GP and demand answers :)

I've got a little sore thing on my nose which i've managed to almost cure using molasses (it works on all skin problems) you could try it next time you get yr facial prob.

ppeatfruit · 06/10/2010 08:09

Thinking about yr. problem does it happen when you've had barbecued [burnt] food? or drinking more orange juice, alcohol etc than usual? Try googling earth clinic it has good natural remedies for everything. HTH
