Will DC1 suffer the same?

Hi all - I've been checking out this thread & wonder if you might have any ideas as Im pretty worried!

Im pregnant with my first baby at the moment & I am really frightened that he/she will suffer with allergies as bad as I do.

I get all the usual hayfever, skin welts, uriticaria, photosensitive skin when Im too hot or cold, eye allergies etc....which I can deal with...BUT twice I have had anaphylaxis and the second time round I nearly died. I have tried testing to find the cause but nobody can work it out & the consultant tells me that the cause is unknown & it was probably two completely different causes each episode. I have to carry an epi-pen with me at all times & just have to hope I dont get it again! Sad

Im worried about my little one - will they be affected by the same? I really wouldnt wish it on anyone and to think that my child may have this kind of allergy is pretty scary.

Does anyone have any knowledge/experience of this at all?

Thanks Pixie - that certainly sounds positive. I have been thinking about it all so much, just hoping that I dont pass any of my allergies on.

Oh ellesbelles sorry for hijack. I can't offer advice re genetics of allergies as in all honesty I have no idea Blush

BUT my DS suffers the same as you do and I've been concerned about it as its only developing and quite rapidly. My concern is unexpected anyphalaxis (sp?). He is on ceterizine 10mg daily and the usual prescibed bath stuff and creams. He gets the welts on his face and if you sctratch the skin on there too. GP thinks its pollen but he had an allergy RAST test for tomato and peanuts which was negative in March and his overall IgE was only 14. Any advice??? I have to see GP next week again as new diagnosis and not sure what he wants to do re antihistamines - DS had has flare ups while on them and another 5ml of puiton does counteract it.

I'm v allergic to kiwi fruit (big blisters on mouth) and my sons are not. I watched in horror once as some well meaning realative (idiot) "popped" a piece into one of my son's mouth at a party. Nothing happened thank goodness. The other son tried some at someone's house and was also fine.

EllesBelles - you don't say if the father has any of the atopic symptoms - asthma, eczema, hayfever, other allergies. Genetics wise this can raise the possibilities - but even then, they don't mean that they will get the same or as severe. Both me and DH have various of the atopics, all 3 DS have various of the atopics - in varying degrees. Most - as you say, once you're used to, can be easily dealt with. Don't panic - enjoy your pregnancy, relax, and enjoy your newbie. Smile
