Baby wipes rash (after a week of using them)

Hello,

My 11 month old DD had a reaction to her baby wipes this morning - Waitrose organic, fragrance free...
Her face had a rash where I wiped it with. But she was fine with them for a week, even biting them at times with no reaction.... ummm!

She had exactly the same thing with another brand a couple months ago (also organic), a bad reaction after 10 days of using them everyday.

Why would it cause a reaction so late?

what were you wiping off her face?

some foods (strawberries, tomatoes, citrus) can cause skin reactions

try a wet flannel instead?

This doesn't answer your question at all but after trying lots of different so called sensitive skin wipes on my DD the only ones that she doesn't react to at all are Simple ones. HTH even though it was not what you were asking! :)

I was wiping fruit/baby rice, which I do every day after she eats. She had kiwi for the first time yesterday though.
2 months ago it happened when she didn't eat anything new that day (can't remember, but probably chicken/carrot/sweet potato/parsnip)

I was thinking maybe the alcohol could have caused it...but why today only?

will probably stick to wet flannels at home and use wipes when out and about...

DD1 react sometimes more to sensitive "things" often because of Aloe vera which she must be allergic.

agree with mrsbadger

MrsBadger · 10/09/2010 10:32

bet you it was the kiwi

(NB 11m and still on fruit/babyrice? is she ok?)

eskimomama · 10/09/2010 10:58

what's wrong with fruit/baby rice? - it's not fully liquidized if that's what you mean, I leave fruits bits. She's allergic to dairy so that's her daily breakfast. Confused

my 2 year old reacts to aloe vera in wipes..the huggies natural care wipes caused her more problems than the JS own brand ones that have almond oil in! slight tangent but why do companies market baby products for children that have sensitive skin/eczema and then put nut oil in the product?..ridiculous as huge link between eczema and allergies. pretty sure that is how my daughter became sensitised to nuts...

My DD is super sensitive. We switched to washable wipes and no harsh chemicals as we just wet with water, or sometimes I make a wipe solutiuon with lovely natural things in it. Just buy some cheap face cloths if its only for wiping her down after a meal. Will save you a fortune, the enviroment but most importantly your DD won't react.

Green rant over....its most like the kiwi...

hi there, just wanted to agree with nelix and say that getting into a routine of buying a batch of cheap facecloths, and using to wipe face, hands is great for their skin and v cheap. I also take these out ready dampened in a plastic tub or bag.
If you want convincing try wiping your face with a wipe - they can often be quite stingy on the skin..!
