RAST tomorrow with DD 3y/o hold my hand?

Ah! I am so stressed about RASTs with DD3 tomorrow. I hate hate hate the blood draws, she was 2 last time and it was an utter nightmare. Now she is 3.5 it is not going to be any better for sure.

Its one thing with a teenager but another with a toddler. Anyone done this recently with a little one? Any tips?

So far I have books and toys packed and Haribo which are usually banned in my house (!) and promised ice cream. She is naturally saying no but then again I was hardly expecting her to agree readily.

Any tips on the Emla cream? I have never had to put it on myself and am convinced I will muck it up and she will feel the needle. Hospital said to put it on as we leave the house as it needs to be on for an hour before the test.

Sob. Sob. Sob. Last time she had night terrors for 2 weeks afterwards. Its the restraining she despises the most I think.

Ohhhh, good idea, I have videos of her on my iPhone that she loves to watch, that is a good idea thanks so much!

I have to restrain her, they don't have any mod cons I am afraid, just me and the nurse and a pillow on which to rest her arm and 'stay still'. Yeah right.

I feel dreadful restraining her as it makes her go loopy, always has. Also gives her night terrors for a few weeks afterwards.

Treats planned and for both with a playdate in the pm and wine o'clock for the Mummies once the sun is over the yard arm... around 5ish I hope!

Emla cream is wonderful stuff. I had this for my cannula when I had both my caesareans (really afraid of needles), and didn't feel a thing.

Would highly recommend.

BBF - hope it went well. Glad you're still posting.

My DS hated his RAST tests (a year ago) and for a while he had a fear of bubbles because that's what the playworker used to try and distract him. When we went to get the results a month later, he screamed as soon as he saw the hospital waiting room Sad

Let us know how you got on - it does us all good to share experiences Smile

Hope all went well BBF.

Too late now as you've beeen but our paed blood tests are at hospital ina room with DVD, sit on parents lap and spray arm with some cold numbing stuff.

DS 5 when he had his was OK but think if he needed more he would go ballistic as he knows whats involved iyswim.

Hello all! Thanks so much for your lovely posts.

All went as well as it could, she sat on my lap and the staff were truly lovely. They held her arm (was totally numb!) and I held the rest of her. At least this time we had no bolting for the door, leg thrashing, eye punching with the spare arm - things must be getting better!!

She was ok afterwards too but I did lay on the treats. Today however she is bolshy and disobedient - anyone else get this? Stress fall out??

How was the egg allegy BB??? We get results in about 2 weeks. At least with skin prick you get a pretty good idea right away.

Thanks to all for your support xxx
