after 18months and dd4 not showing any def signs of outgrowing allergies i found it a bit much.

i am expecting dc5 in dec. and fight a daily self battle about what i shoul and shouldnt eat to minimise allergies. i ended up crying and howling on dh shoulders about how shit it all was, how much i hate it, and its not fair.

he told me to eat the nuts. because if dc5 doesnt have an allergy at all then its all good. but if i avoid them like i did for dd1,2 aqnd 3, and they all had allergies, then i will blame myself anyway for it.

so he said eat and enjoy.

tbhm i think he is right,. i dont think anything i do, or dont do will affect anything. i have done things both ways, and shitty genetics wins over food unfortunatly.

not sure why i'm typing this, but wanted to get it all out.

i think he just wanted the nuts eaten as they had been tempted them. honey roasted nuts are lovely. and i woulod choose them over chocolate anyday.

i ate them. and they were good.

dd1 has food additive allergies, particually to tartrazine. and a cat allergy (i have never eaten a cat btw!)

dd2 has oral allergy syndrome to apples and pears, and possibly raw carrots (she has had one reaction to raw carrot, but havent tried her again). also allergic to cats.

dd3 is allergic to cats, when younger she had an egg allergy.

dd4 is allergic to milk, eggs, nuts and dustmites.

ALL have asthma, all have had eczema, all suffer hayfever.

So pretty shitty genetics really.

I ate peanut butter o toast through both pregnancies.

DS has lots of allergies including most treenuts, seseme seeds, cats, plasters, hayfever. He was allergic to peanuts but has grown out it.

DD has no allergies at all

Both DH and I have eczema and hayfever and DH is allergic to brazil nuts and various other things.

It is a lottery.

misdee · 07/09/2010 21:26

total lottery.

Total agreement here also - DS (4) multiple severe food allergies (including nuts),dustmite, cat, dog, covered in eczema from 6 weeks old until about 3 months ago.

DD (2) no allergies that we've come across, no eczema.

Did the same in both pregnancies, it's just shitty genetics I'm afraid.

Eat and enjoy your pregnancy Misdee Smile

ronshar · 08/09/2010 11:19

I know how you feel.
It makes me want to cry every time I have to say no to my ds when his big sisters are having cake etc. He is allergic to dairy and try as I might he really doesnt like lots of the dairy free alternatives. Poor boy.

Genetics have alot to answer for dont theyGrin

I echo everyone else. Eat what you feel like eating and just enjoy being pregnant.

misdee · 08/09/2010 21:54

she has started shouting 'ice cream' hen she hears the van. she has never had it, and we tell her no, and have ready supply of her 'treats' when the older girls have start.

cant wait to get some worthenshaws freedom for her.

Ah it can be really shitty! I think we all have days where it gets us down, well I certainly do, and never more so than when I was pregnant.
I think its a total genetic lottery!

Shaxx · 09/09/2010 22:53

I've heard that it may be helpful in a case like yours, to delay the baby jabs for a few months/1 yr until the immune system gets a bit stronger.
May be worth a thought?

Jaybird37 · 09/09/2010 23:07

Shaxx allergies are due to an over-sensitive immune system.

Does this cheer you up?

allergies reduce cancer risk

Appletrees · 09/09/2010 23:11

Misdee, I would second what Shaxx says. If my children had that history, I would do exactly that. Avoid for as long as possible.

I hope you feel better soon, good luck with the pregnancy and birth.

Shaxx · 09/09/2010 23:26

Jaybird, that is true. I've heard (so not gospel or anything) that some babies are born with an under-developed immune system and the jabs can can create the over-sensitivity. It overloads the system.
Its well known that jabs contain such things as lactose and peanut oil so creating a sensitivity to such things.

Appletrees · 09/09/2010 23:28

I don't think jabs have lactose and peanut oil do they? I really don't think that at all.

But they are plainly the biggest insult to the immune system of the early weeks so if there's a lot of allergy in the family I would be thinking hard about letting them slide a little..

Shaxx · 09/09/2010 23:37

Apparently they're used as adjuants, not an actual ingredient.

Shaxx · 09/09/2010 23:37

Adjuvants

Appletrees · 09/09/2010 23:40

Well I never did.

Shaxx · 09/09/2010 23:42

I read articles on quite a few 'alternative' sites when I was trying to get info about ds2's vaccines. Smile
It all seemed to make some kind of sense then.

Shaxx · 09/09/2010 23:47

sorry meant ds2's allergy's. Its late and I'm tired Smile

Appletrees · 10/09/2010 00:22

Yes I googled and I could only find those sites but I don't suppose that means it's not true. Go to bed Smile

misdee · 10/09/2010 09:55

i am very ahem, lax with the jabs scedule. dd4 only had the 3rd babylot done at over a year old, and still hasnt had her MMR at 22months.

dd1 i stuck to the jabs schedule, and the effect on her skin was horrible. so have always been a bit later with getting the other girls jabbed.
