DS is 6yo.

Basically after mounths of allergic reactions to ketchup and hayfever with severe skin reaction on face (looks like acid burns) DS has been diagnosed with the above and told not to use anything scented etc. (prescibed bath stuff) The reaction is from pollen but his skin will'welt' at any slight scratch.

Just dawned on me that its still quite sunny at the mo so was wondering if anyone had suggestions of a suncream we could use - although the one I have at mo he seems ok (asda kids one) I'm feeling very protective and want to use the best products I can to help him avoid un-necessary distress.

I will admit this had made me feel very precious mummy and would be willing to consider any products that prevent him looking like a cherry tomato however I'm a single parent (do work) on a budget so cost unforunatly will factor somewhere.

Hi it may well be worth seeing homepath, as it may be tomotoes or night shade family your child is reacting to. If it affects the face it tends to be something you are eating, so i would start by elminating all tomotoes fresh and anything that contains tomotoes, you be surprised how toxic tomotes are to the human body thats why they are aare part of deadly nightshade family. Let me know what area you are and i may be able to help with a cheap homepath who will tell you more or less 1st meeting that your child may have allergies.

thanks Tania,

He had a RAST test earlier in the year which showed overall IeG of 14 not particulary elevated at all and no clear reaction to tomatoes or peanuts. It was the dadly nightshade that I immediatly thought about.

His symtoms have worsened over the summer, had hayfever - or at least that has been diagnosed without testing iyswim and even had a hives reaction to an apple. (only ever happened this once) so I considered oral allergy syndrome as its pollen related. Then he got the hives on his face which didn't clear even after days of antihitimine. Took him to GP and questioned if it was hives and I was treating it right. He sctatched DS back with nail and it came up in welts. He said thats a histimine reaction - agreed pollen likely cause as it had happened when camping and now had daily antihistimine. It was when I looked up welts on scratching that I got the word demetrographism of internet. (waiting to see what happens then may ask for referral to allergist/ dermotologist for diagnosis)

Has been on daily antihistimine for a week now and face is clear and skin no longer welts on scratching so think obviously something there not sure what tho.

I'm hampshire (south england) and would be very interested to get to the bottom of the cause of this as we are preventing at the moment but medically and elimination of cause would be far better approach.

Thanks

Not exactly what you are asking, but being on a budget, you can ask your GP or consultant for suncream on prescription, my DS has his from the doctor or hospital because of his eczema and chronic urticaria.

I probably could actually as he has been given oilamtum and doublebase on perscirption, I didn't realise suncream could as well, thanks Smile

My DD also has Urticaria and I have been given sun cream on prescription. Sunsense factor 50. She has been fine with it. Ask your doctor, I was given a big supply at the start of the summer, and to cover holidays etc.
