Just over a month ago my DD reacted to Cows milk (hives all over neck and chest and red and swollen face), we have seen the GP and HV. The GP prescibed nutramigen AA, which my daughter takes fine. She has since then eaten fruit and veg, baby porridge (with EBM or oat milk), toast and a few other bits and bobs with no reactions.

This lunchtime I prepared her lunch - one ice cube of pear (has had lot of times) and one of parsnip (has had on its own once and in an Ella's kitchen pouch mix), she also had a cup of water. I put on the bib she had used at breakfast this morning.

My LO did not look happy from the outset and after a couple of mouthfuls was quite alarmingly shaking her head from side to side, then I saw why - another hives reaction - looked really uncomfortable for the poor thing. I immediately stopped feeding her, took the bib off and went upstairs. I took off her clothes which were a bit damp (from dribbles of water) and laid her on our bed to allow some air to get to her skin. Within 10-15 minutes the hives had calmed down. I redressed her and took her downstairs. Since I was fairly convinced that the reaction was not caused by the puree, i gave her some more and yes, no reaction. I gave her a piece of bread - no reaction. The only difference was the clothes and bib.

Is it possible the the clothes or bib she was wearing caused the reaction? Has anyone had anything similar? I know that there was no dairy on the bib - she used it this morning and we ate our cereal before she had hers.

Its all very odd! Anyway I have another GPs appointment tomorrow so will discuss it with him then.

Washing powder? contamination onto anything she had.

fairy liquid? residue on the spoon/ bowl etc
or
I did also have bib/ facecloth reactions on DS face due to washing powder - did you wipe her face before you started feeding?

Sorry I haven't been back since - things have been a little bit manic with LO...

GP could not offer any other suggestions, other than those here. I am more and more thinking that the bib must have been contaminated with dairy. No more reactions with clothes etc since.

EBF was so much less complicated!!

I am sure this isn't the case with you, but just a thought.

DS was allergic to cows milk when we started weaning. First reaction was to parsnip puree, because DH had made it and mixed in a tiny bit of cows milk because it was too thick. You weren't using an old puree without realising were you?

If not, I would tend to agree with the contamination theory. Such a quick and violent hives reaction in my experience is less likely to be washing powder (my DCs get eczema from this but not hives) and it does sound like a reaction to dairy.

None of my purees have ever been mixed with milk, we only add milk (EBM or oat milk) after they have been warmed for feeding.

Definitely bib!

My poor DD and DH!

Today he blew a raspberry on her neck and she reacted to it! I am assuming that he had some milk on his lips from his breakfast - only a really small reaction but shows how reactive she is!!!

Brasso I don't know if you have seen my thread about my dd2 reacting to what I have concluded must be a bib at nursery.
She has worn the same bibs there for 6 months.

I am also totally confused. How strange to hear of another similar case!!!

Sorry to hear about the other reaction (to the raspberry).
