Have you more than one child with allergies?

I'm currently pregnant with my second child. My DS, now 22 months, has allergies to egg (yolk and white) and dairy, as well as fairly serious lactose intolerance. He also has an allergy to a protein in breast milk.
His first 10 weeks were horribly difficult - he ended up in NICU at 3 days old for 10 days as he simply vomited everything straight back up. They managed to briefly stabilise him on formula, but for 10 weeks he steadily lost weight and screamed in pain constantly. At 10 weeks old he was 1lb under birth weight - but, within 24 hours of being moved onto nutramigen he became a different baby. It was wonderful!

Anyway, I am so so scared of having to go through this all again. His consultant at the allergy clinic says that there is no greater risk for number 2 being affected (there is no family history of food allergies or intolerance), but just looking for experiences from Mums who have been there.

Thankyou

We're an atopic family but my second has no allergies - my first has oodles.

When I was pregnant with No2 there was a lot of research going into taking pro-biotics when you were pregnant to avoid allergies - I guzzled the stuff in hope and all was good - luck says the consultant; who knows!

Wow - five children - Pixie you rock!

My DD has no food allergies although she does have eczema.

DS was allergic to milk and eggs. Has outgrown those allergies but is now allergic to cats, mold spores and most recently apparently sesame. I have a couple of allergies.

DD has had full skin prick tests done because DS is on the leap study and she has no food allergies at all. DS's issues came as a real surprise although I guess we are an "atopic" family too so it shouldn't have done I guess.

Both of my dds have food allergies. Dd1 is allergic to egg and dd2 is allergic to eggs and dairy (that we are aware of)

obviously we hoped that dd2 didn't have allergies and were really disappointed when we found she did but even though dd2s allergies are worse than dd1's I feel much more able to cope and deal with them since its not such a shock or leap into the unknown. For example if your second dc were to experience the same symptoms as your dc1 you could move him/her straight on to the appropriate formula.

Also having both of them with allergies strangely normalises it for both of them and there is a sense of looking after each other.

Congratulations on your pregnancy and try not to worry.

I'm afraid I took probiotics with my second pregnancy to no avail. I also exclusively breastfed to 6months.
I think what will be will be sadly!

Thank you everyone who replied. You're right that I will be so much more aware of the symptoms that I wouldn't allow it to continue for 9 weeks. The doctors just got so hung up on serious reflux as he was constantly vomiting I think, and as a first time mum I had very little clue!

My husband was saing that, in a way, it would be easier if number 2 has issues with dairy, as it will be hard stopping a feisty toddler helping themselves to a youbger siblings foods and treats anyway.

I'll have a read up about probiotics. Strangely the mere thought of dairy still makes me hurl in this pregnancy so I'd need them in non-yoghurt form.
